Around this time every year, all the networks start to cast their pilots. While you may think every show that gets developed ends up on the air, you’d be mistaken. The odds of creating a show that actually makes it is very small, and to become a hit show, it’s like winning the lottery. To try and raise the odds of a successful crop of new shows, the networks develop many pilots. In fact, the number is often two or three times what they actually need. That way they can pick the best of the bunch, and the rest are usually never seen or heard from again. Again, even if you hear about a pilot, it doesn’t mean you’ll ever see it.
Saying that, a number of actors (Daniel Dae Kim Cast, Michael Chiklis, Jason Ritter, Zach Gilford, Aisha Hinds, Todd Williams) have recently been cast in pilots that are about to shoot. Hit the jump for details on what shows they landed on:
Daniel Dae Kim (Lost) has been cast as Detective Chin Ho Kelly in CBS’s remake of Hawaii Five-0. The role was originally played by Kam Fong. According to THR, the part of Detective Steve McGarrett has not yet been cast, though Moonlight star Alex O’Loughlin continues to be in talks for it. The remake of Hawaii Five-0 is being done by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and Peter Lenkov. I’d say the odds on this remake getting a green light are very high.
Michael Chiklis (The Shield) is set to be the lead on Greg Berlanti’s ABC drama pilot No Ordinary Family. According to THR:
“Centers on an American family whose members have special abilities. Chiklis, who has experience playing a superhero from his turn in the Fantastic Four movie franchise, will play the father.
Berlanti penned the project with Jon Feldman; the duo worked together on ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money.”
And the rest comes of the news from this THR article.
Jason Ritter has been cast as the lead in NBC’s drama The Event.
The Event is a thriller chronicled from multiple points of view that centers on a regular guy (Ritter) fighting his way through the mysterious circumstances of a larger conspiracy.
Zach Gilford has been cast to lead ABC’s pilot Matadors.
Matadors, from Sony TV, centers on two feuding Chicago families, one in the district attorney’s office and the other in the city’s most influential private law firm.
Todd Williams has joined Fox’s drama Ridealong.
Ridealong follows one of Chicago’s toughest cops as he struggles to clean up the corruption in town. Williams will play a beat copper who thrives on the adrenaline of his job.
Aisha Hinds has been cast in the ABC drama 187 Detroit.
187 Detroit, from ABC Studios, a fictional doc crew follows a top homicide division. Hinds will play an overworked and underpaid lieutenant.
