Disney has decided to shoot Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 3D. For the past few months, the studio had been debating whether or not to shoot in 3D or convert in post. Thankfully, they’ve made the smart decision and at least they can now try and justify asking audiences to pay more to see it.
No word on what cameras they’re using, but I’m sure with this being a Jerry Bruckheimer movie, it won’t be done on the cheap. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides gets released May 20, 2011 with Johnny Depp returning as Captain Jack Sparrow, Penelope Cruz will play Sparrow’s love interest, Ian McShane (Deadwood) is in talks to play Blackbeard, the villain of the movie, and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey has been cast in the “key role” of Syrena, a beautiful and alluring young mermaid. The film starts shooting next month on location in Hawaii, Great Britain and Los Angeles with Rob Marshall directing.

This is old news. Blue Sky Disney revealed this in April. And they not only revealed that it would be in 3D, they revealed what would, and what would not be shot in the format: Nikke Finke is reporting this like it's her scoop. Bullcrap.

I am really not surprised by this. I don't think there's a major Hollywood film in pre-production right now that is NOT being prepped for 3-D. Oh, well. Hopefully, it will be a lot better than “Pirates 3″ which was overstuffed with characters & story-lines, and actually quite boring.
Noooo! This is disappointing. I would like to dodge a couple of cannons and bullets. But this 3-D stuff is getting quite old really quick. Just look at Clash of the Titians, was there really a need to convert the movie in 3-D? If Disney is going to film “Pirates 4” in 3-D then it better for a good cause.
THIS ARTICLE HAS IT WRONG!, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 4 IS COMING OUT ON MAY 20TH, 2011, NOT NO JUNE 20TH, 2011
