Disney Planning to Shoot PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 & 6 Back-to-Back

by     Posted 3 years, 135 days ago

While Disney hasn’t even shown a trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the studio is already planning to shoot the fifth and sixth installments in the franchise back-to-back.  According to Hitfix, the studio is “quietly telling cast and crew to set aside a major block of time in the very near future so they can shoot Pirates 5 and Pirates 6,” back-to-back.  For those who don’t know, Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End were shot this way and despite their gargantuan budgets, they made an even bigger return.  The Pirates series has become one of Disney’s marquee franchises so it’s no surprise they’re already planning out the new sequels.

Hit the jump to learn about Johnny Depp’s schedule, which will likely dictate when these bad boys shoot.

Depp is currently planning to shoot Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows and Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger in 2011.  Depp has also expressed interest in starring in a re-adaptation of Dashiell Hammett’s The Thin Man and has been in talks to costar in Kathryn Bigelow’s Triple Frontier.

There’s currently no word on whether Disney is trying to get Pirates 4 helmer Rob Marshall to direct the next two movies or where they plan to go with the story.  The big question is whether audiences will still want to see more Jack Sparrow.  We’ll get our answer to that question when Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides hits theater in 3D on May 20, 2011.

For those just tuning in, here’s the film’s official synopsis:

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise—this time in Disney Digital 3D™. Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise.  When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love—or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more:  Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

The international cast includes franchise vets Geoffrey Rush as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa, and Kevin R. McNally as Captain Jack’s longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs, plus Sam Claflin as a stalwart missionary and Astrid Berges-Frisbey as a mysterious mermaid.  In theaters Memorial Day weekend, 2011.

What about Snow White and the Huntsman?

Is anybody else getting Jack Sparrow fatigue? In very small doses in the first film I absolutly loved him, in fact he was my favorite part of the film. He was eqaul parts Errol Flynn, Mr Magoo and Ozzy Osbourne. It seems like in the span of two movies he went from Boba Fett to the annoying drunk who won’t stop talking to you at the party. By the end of the third film I was ready to throw him overboard (although the third film was a let down on alot of levels). As much as the idea of Ian Mcshane as Blackbeard excites me, I am terrified of a film where Jack Sparrow is the true lead and now we are going to get 3 more films with him? Am I nuts here? I really hope the POTC: On Stranger Tides trailer blows me away and proves me wrong!

Stop hijacking Collider with your stupid comments and even more stupid blog.

Why are my comments any stupider than anyone elses? I get that endless spam is not only annoying but disrespectful, but that isn’t what I’m doing. I always try to contribute to the conversation, have a point of view, back it up and if some people are interested in my perspective they can click the link and read more. Why is that a problem? It blows my mind that I am the one you are angry at when the first comment on this post is illierate nonesense. Is it just my Jack Sparrow fatigue that angers you or something else? I don’t want to get in aflame war, just have an intelligent conversation about film.

The last two films were pretty crap, noones arguing.

BUT after a trilogy things generally start to get better because they learn what suck and what doesn’t. Johnny Depp for example got paid something like 50 million, that price means script approval and basically alot of creative power. Johnny Depp is a smart guy who makes good films, he’ll bring the Jack Sparrow character up to form.

i guess disney thinks pirates could be the next star wars even though they all barely, just barely, connect with one another. the production value is only going to get worse and worse. pirates 1-3 shot in the caribbean. pirates 4 – hawaii… pirates 5/6!? malibu state beach.. i really hope depp didnt sign a contract.. might as well make it a tv mini series. so many bad things to say about this..

I thought they want to slow things down. They said they want to shot each movies on their own! I know i have lost in faith in disney years ago when they only wanted to make big budget movies for merchandising. But this news really got me have no respect on them anymore.
