Just one day after it was announced that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (aka Pirates of the Caribbean 5) had started filming in Australia (likely one of many locations the globe-trotting production will shoot in), we have an image from the set. It’s not hugely revealing, but it does show helmers Espen Sandberg & Joachim Rønning directing the film from video village and, if you look hard enough, a glimpse of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer posted the pic to Twitter.
Newcomers Javier Bardem, Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites, and Golshifteh Farahani star along mainstays Geoffrey Rush, Kevin R. McNally, and Stephen Graham. The script was penned by Jeff Nathanson (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Catch Me If You Can). As someone who loved the first film and liked its two immediate sequels (but disliked On Stranger Tides), the best I can hope for is that they get some of their mojo back.

Here’s the synopsis for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.
It’s been about ten years since I’ve seen the first installment, perhaps it’s time for a revisit to see if it holds up.
