Here’s the official synopsis for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides:

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise–this time in Disney Digital 3D(TM). Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed adventure. Crossing paths with the enigmatic Angelica (Penelope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love–or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the “Queen Anne’s Revenge,” the ship of the legendary pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know whom to fear more: Blackbeard or Angelica, with whom he shares a mysterious past. The international cast includes franchise vets Geoffrey Rush as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa and Kevin R. McNally as Captain Jack’s longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs, plus Sam Claflin as a stalwart missionary and Astrid Berges-Frisbey as a mysterious mermaid.

I can’t imagine how I could, but I would totally tap those mermaids

Fresh fish has no odor. I smell irony there somewhere.

Am I the only one who gets a “been there done that” vibe from this movie? I mean mermaids are a new concept for the franchise but they aren’t quite as attention grabbing as skeleton pirates like the original film.

I don’t know, it looks like it has a fair amount of potential. Yes, a lot of the things we’re seeing have been done before, but it’s because they’re archetypes of seafaring stories, particularly pirate stories, and I’m excited to see how they’ll handle them in relation to this series.

I don’t think I need to say how disappointing the second and third films are, but On Stranger Tides looks like it could bring some new life back to the series and be much more like the first one: a fun swashbuckler with a great cast, and an entertaining premise, rather than the bloated, incoherent mess of the second two films.

Meh. I’d love for this movie to be great, but honestly they killed all the good faith that the first film inspired. There’s a tremendous amount of talent attached here and that’s about it. I agree with Ben; “been there, done that”.

The middle mermaid *kinda* looks like Beyonce………..

Come on people! This film offers escapism for two hours or so. It’s action adventure popcorn ala Indiana jones. With what’s happening in the world right now, this maritime fun looks like just what the doctored ordered. It will be great!
