Hailee Steinfeld to Join PITCH PERFECT 2; Poised to Take Over Franchise in Future Films

     April 30, 2014

The first major piece of casting on the highly anticipated sequel Pitch Perfect 2—outside of the returning members, that is—has landed.  Variety reports that True Grit and Ender’s Game actress Hailee Steinfeld is in talks to join the cast of the music-filled follow-up, adding that if Pitch Perfect 2 does well at the box office, the idea is for Steinfeld to take over as the star of the franchise in Pitch Perfect 3 and future installments.  That’s a big get for Steinfeld and an interesting choice for the film, which starts production soon.

Hit the jump for more.  Pitch Perfect 2 opens in theaters on May 15, 2015.

Elizabeth Banks confirmed the news of Steinfeld’s involvement on Twitter with the following welcome note:

Plot details are under wraps for the aca-promising sequel, per Variety, but the majority of the original cast, including Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and Brittany Snow, are returning.  Excitingly, Elizabeth Banks is making her feature directorial debut on the project with a script by Pitch Perfect scribe Kay Cannon.

Though Pitch Perfect 2 will obviously once again involve signing, Steinfeld actually has experience with music-geared projects.  She plays the daughter of Mark Ruffalo’s record producer character in Once director John Carney’s upcoming film Begin Again, and she gets a chance to show off her vocal talents in the pic.

Steinfeld also has a number of other projects already in the can, including the actioner Barely Lethal and the crime drama Term Life opposite Vince Vaughn.  She’s mostly stuck to dramatic territory save for Begin Again, but Pitch Perfect 2 will give her the opportunity to explore her comedic side.

She was so damn good in True Grit. I was really hoping she’d end up in Star Wars.

Yeah, she totally looks like she could be Leia’s daughter. And she has her sassy personality as well.

I’d like to believe she was asked to audition for the role that went to Daisy Ridley. But she declined it.

Well at least we know she can sing well, that musical finale in Ender’s Game was mindblowing.

I like her, and therefore this is terrible news.

Glad to see Hana Mae Lee back, but what’s with the blonde hair?

Wait, you actually care about this?

Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, and Brittnay Snow were the best actors/characters in the last movie. I like Steinfeld, but it would kinda suck not to have Kendrick leading the charge on Pitch Perfect 3 :

It’s a college a cappella group. In the first film Kendrick was a freshman and in the sequel she be a junior or senior with Steinfeld presumably being a freshman. Kendrick can’t just stay in college forever just to participate in an extracurricular activity.

Could made Becca a Sophomore in the sequel… Then depending on if they feel like making 3 or 4 movies, have her be a Junior in 2 and a Senior in 4.

But I’m guessing Anna Kendrick doesn’t want to play this character four times, hence this news.

Hailee Steinfeld needs to be in everything. She’s a stunning, dynamic actress who has not yet found a movie worthy of her talents.

Why wasn’t she cast in Episode VII?? :(

This. She would have been a better choice than that Ridley chick.
