SONS OF ANARCHY Recap: “Greensleeves”

Sons of Anarchy continued its bloody final ride in “Greensleeves,” creating some excellent tension along the way.  While it seemed like Juice could be the lynchpin regarding the revelation of Gemma’s sins and potential demise, “Greensleeves” made it clear that Gemma has now fully become a Lady MacBeth, or even a Raskolnikov figure (though given Sutter’s Shakespearean partiality, I would presume the former).  What was once considered a righteous act begins devolving into paranoia and madness on her part.  Hit the jump to find out “who puts the ‘oh’ in ho.”

Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Recap: “A Hen in the Wolf House”

Welcome back, true believers!  Our latest installment promises to introduce a long standing character from the comics into the Marvel cinematic universe in the form of Bobbi Morse, played by Adrianne Palicki.  Bobbi, aka Mockingbird, is the ex-wife of Avenger, Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner in the movies), and has found herself on quite a few incarnations of the team herself.  In our most recent installment of the series, the gang will find themselves at odds with Ms. Morse as she is revealed to be the current head of security for Hydra.  Whether or not this is a con or a new take on the character is yet to be seen, though it would be funny to see how many undercover S.H.I.E.L.D. agents there are in Hydra at this point with the recent episode focusing on Simmons.  (Maybe there are no actual Hydra agents left!)  Will the team be able to battle the forces of Hydra this go around?  Is Mockingbird friend or foe?  Has Agent Coulson been working on his dance routine from last week?  All these and more revealed in our latest Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. recap after the jump.

BACHELOR PARTY TV Series in the Works for ABC

The film-to-TV trend continues with the 1984 comedy Bachelor Party.  Tom Hanks starred as the husband-to-be who has to survive the ultimate bachelor party while staying faithful to his fiancée.  This new rendition is only loosely based on the original narrative and will come in the format of a half-hour comedy anthology series geared towards examining relationships and the institution of marriage.

ABC scored the show via a big put pilot commitment with Jason Winer set to direct as long as his schedule permits.  Should the Bachelor Party TV series get an order, Winer and Max Winkler will then alternate directing the episodes.  Hit the jump for more on the new show.

Great news for those of you who have been enjoying The Flash on The CW so far: the show has recently been picked up for a full season!  It’s not really a surprising bit of news, but it’s nice to make it official all the same.  Now the news may leave fans of the show feeling a bit misty, while those who aren’t yet on board may walk away feeling … gassy.  And that, my friends, is how we tie in the Villain of the Week featured on tonight’s episode, “Things You Can’t Outrun.”

Ray Fisher Says He Didn’t Know He Was Getting a Solo CYBORG Movie

Apparently now that Warner Bros. has unveiled the release dates for its DC movie slate, the stars can start talking about the films – to a degree.  Just yesterday we shared some quotes from Jason Momoa on Aquaman and now we’ve got Ray Fisher talking Cyborg, too.

The guy doesn’t have a single feature film credit to his name, but soon enough, he’ll have two pretty big ones – Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League Part One.  On top of that, much to Fisher’s surprise, he’s getting a Cyborg standalone movie, too.  Hit the jump to find out which Justice League members Fisher has met and what it was like to first find he’s getting a solo movie mere hours before the Warner Bros./DC release date announcement hit.

BAD SANTA 2 Still Coming Even if Billy Bob Thornton Admits It Won’t Be as Good as the First

I liked Bad Santa when I saw it in 2003.  I actually haven’t seen it since then so I have no idea how it ages or holds up or any of that, but apparently there’s an appetite for a sequel.  Makes sense, I guess I’d probably check out Bad Santa 2 if it happens.  A few years back Steve Pink was going to helm, but then those duties fell to Doug Ellin.  Ellin is still busy wrapping up the artistic juggernaut of the Entourage movie, so even though there’s a chance his Kubrickian penchant for perfection will keep him in the editing room for another few years on that project, one could also reasonably assume he’d make time for this sooner or later.

If the script is good.  That’s what they’re waiting on.  Even though Billy Bob Thornton himself wisely admits there’s no way they can top the first one (the success of that film seemed like lighting in a bottle, and audiences are harder to shock eleven years later).  Head inside for more on Bad Santa 2.

MADEA’S TOUGH LOVE Trailer: Meet Tyler Perry’s Animated Madea

There’s no new Madea movie hitting theaters this year for the first time in three years, but you’re not completely off the hook.  Tyler Perry may have swapped his Madea getup for a super dapper suit to portray Tanner Bolt in David Fincher’s Gone Girl, but he’s still unleashing his inner Madea for a new animated film, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Tough Love.

I’ve completely lost patience for the film franchise and for Madea in general, but I’ve also got to admit, the new Madea’s Tough Love trailer actually makes me think that the character would have been better suited for animation all along.  That voice is as grating as ever and the jokes aren’t particularly amusing either, but it is easier to be a little more forgiving when viewing her antics in cartoon format.  Take a look at the trailer for yourself after the jump.  Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Tough Love hits Digital HD on January 13, 2015 and will also makes its way onto DVD and VOD on January 20, 2015.

Kim Basinger Joins Shane Black’s NICE GUYS; Patrick Stewart to Play White Supremacist Leader in GREEN ROOM

An L.A. Confidential reunion of sorts is in the works.  THR reports that Kim Basinger is set to join the cast of director Shane Black’s 1970s noir film The Nice Guys, reuniting her with her L.A. Confidential co-star Russell Crowe, who plays a hired leg breaker that teams up with a private eye (Ryan Gosling) in order to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star.  Basinger will play the chief justice in the film, a character who is in bed with criminals.  The film returns Black to noir territory after co-writing and directing one of the best Marvel films yet, Iron Man 3.  The cast is filling out quite nicely, with Matt Bomer, Cara Delevingne, Keith David, and Beau Knapp all onboard.  The film is slated for release on June 17, 2016.

Trailer, Poster and Images for STARRY EYES, a New Horror Classic

starry-eyes-trailer-poster-images

I have seen Starry Eyes twice now.  The first time was back in March at SXSW and while I immediately connected with the film and liked it very much, I wound up lobbing a few criticisms at it as well. As the months wore on the movie grew in my head, there was just something about this inexpensive indie that had worn its way into me.  So much so that, several months later, I asked if I could host the Los Angeles premiere of the film.  A second viewing that night not only ameloriated some of the vague concerns I had after the first viewing of the movie, it actually surpassed the version of the film I’d had playing in my head for months after the fact.  Starry Eyes isn’t just good… it’s fantastic.  That’s not hyperbole.  I know some of the people involved and would tell them to their face if I didn’t think it was at least a near classic.

While the trailer I’m including here is old, today’s release of the theatrical/VOD poster for the film is a good excuse to post it on this site for the first time.  Starry Eyes comes from the writing/directing team of Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer and stars Alex Essoe, Noah Segan, Amanda Fuller and Pat Healy.  It was produced by Travis Stevens‘ Snowfort Pictures and hits theaters and VOD on November 14th.  Be there.  Or be home.  But be watching it.

Keanu Reeves Talks JOHN WICK, the Action Sequences, if He’ll Direct Again, the JOHN RAIN TV Series, Eli Roth’s KNOCK KNOCK, and More

Keanu-Reeves-John-Wick-interview

As I’ve said again and again on Twitter and on the site, I absolutely loved John Wick.  Filmmakers Chad Stahelski and David Leitch have crafted a fantastic action thriller that’s absolutely worth your time and money.  When I recently hosted a screening in NYC, there were plenty of laughs, gasps, and tons of applause during the incredible action set pieces.  In the film, Keanu Reeves stars as an ex-hitman who comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him.  Trust me, if you like action movies, this is a must see film.  For more on John Wick, watch this trailer, see Evan shoot people in the face, and here’s all our previous coverage.

Last week in New York City I sat down with Keanu Reeves for an extended interview.  He talked about how he got involved in the film, script changes, the challenge of shooting the various action sequences, the universal appeal of John Wick and the character motivation, if he’ll direct again, if he’d be willing to star in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, his hopes for the John Rain limited TV series that he’s also doing with Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, future projects including the courtroom drama The Whole Truth and the Eli Roth horror movie Knock Knockand more.  Hit the jump to watch.

New PEE-WEE HERMAN Movie is “Imminent” According to Paul Reubens

by     Posted 10 hours ago

As long as this is closer to Pee Wee’s Big Adventure and a decided departure from 1988′s ill fated Big Top Pee-Wee I think we’ll be in fairly decent shape.  Paul Reubens is claiming that an official announcement regarding a new Pee-Wee Herman movie is almost incredibly f*cking nigh.  This is excellent news considering the fact that it’s been well over two years since our last update on the project.  Given the fact that Reubens sounded optimistic then (though not quite this optimistic), let’s hope there’s a bit more going on than last time around.

There’s no word on if Judd Apatow is still involved or if they are using any of the script that he worked on, but I’m hoping there’s a strong steward aboard either way because I don’t want my Pee-Wee ship sailing rudderless.  Hit the jump for more on the new Pee-Wee Herman movie.

Are We Getting a SCREAM TV Series with No Ghostface?

The Scream franchise didn’t hold up particularly well, but the 1996 original is still one of my favorite films of all time so if you do anything with the property, even turn it into a tacky tween-approved MTV show, I’m going to watch it.  However, R.J. Tolbert of Fun World, the company that owns the rights to the Ghostface mask, just dropped a little detail that threatens to decimate any interest I have in it; there may be no Ghostface in MTV’s Scream show.

No Ghostface?  Why call it Scream at all then?  Hit the jump for more on the Scream TV series including what Tolbert had to say about the lack of his iconic mask.
