Now that we finally got a look at the Point Break remake with the first trailer, it's time to go behind the scenes of the extreme stunts, including big wave surfing and wing suit gliding, and how they're re-imagining Katherine Bigelow's beloved 1991 film. Warner Bros. has released a new featurette for the remake spotlighting the film's radical approach to stuntwork and the impressive team they assembled to pull it off.

Much like the trailer, I think everything shown here looks absolutely awesome, it just doesn't look a damn thing like Point Break. The tone is so serious, the color palette so desaturated - it's hard to see any of the original film's DNA here. However, it really does look like a fine action film, and the stunts they're showing off in this featurette seem pretty incredible, I just think it might have been better serviced with a different title that doesn't immediately incur comparisons to a cult classic with a fervently enthusiastic fan base. All the same, I'm intrigued and definitely reserving judgement until I can see the full film.

Here’s the official synopsis for Point Break:

In Alcon Entertainment’s fast-paced, high-adrenaline action thriller “Point Break,” a young FBI agent, Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey), infiltrates a cunning team of thrill seeking elite athletes, led by the charismatic Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez). The athletes are suspected of carrying out a string of staggering crimes that kill innocent people and send the world’s economy into a tailspin.

Deep undercover, and with his life in imminent danger, Utah strives to prove they are the callous architects of these inconceivable crimes.

The film is replete with the most daring athleticism ever seen in a motion picture. These action adventure feats are performed by extreme athletes representing the world’s best in class in big-wave surfing, wingsuit flying, sheer-face snowboarding, free rock climbing, and high-speed motorcycling.
