Warner Bros. and Alcon Entertainment have released the first Point Break trailer for director Ericson Core’s (Invincible) upcoming remake of Kathryn Bigelow’s 1991 film of the same name. The redo stars Luke Bracey as Johnny Utah, a young FBI agent who infiltrates a team of thrill-seeking athletes led by the charismatic Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez).

There's a strong Fast & Furious vibe that permeates throughout this trailer, which is more than a little ironic considering A. the first F&F film was essentially a remake of the original Point Break and B. This remake's director Ericson Core was the director of photography on The Fast and the Furious. Where the two differ, however, is that Warner Bros. seems to be taking a gravely serious tone with Point Break, to the point that there are quite a few lines delivered in earnest here that come off as incredibly cheesy.

But despite all that (and the oddly washed-out color palette), the movie actually looks like it could be kind of neat from a visuals standpoint. Many of the stunts were performed in camera, so if nothing else the film looks to boast some pretty jaw-dropping aerial sequences.

Check out the trailer below, via Warner Bros. The film also stars Ray Winstone, Teresa Palmer, and Delroy Lindo. Point Break opens in 2D and 3D on December 25th.

Here's the official synopsis for Point Break:

In Alcon Entertainment’s fast-paced, high-adrenaline action thriller “Point Break,” a young FBI agent, Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey), infiltrates a cunning team of thrill seeking elite athletes, led by the charismatic Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez). The athletes are suspected of carrying out a string of staggering crimes that kill innocent people and send the world’s economy into a tailspin.

Deep undercover, and with his life in imminent danger, Utah strives to prove they are the callous architects of these inconceivable crimes.

The film is replete with the most daring athleticism ever seen in a motion picture. These action adventure feats are performed by extreme athletes representing the world’s best in class in big-wave surfing, wingsuit flying, sheer-face snowboarding, free rock climbing, and high-speed motorcycling.
