Tobe Hooper‘s Poltergeist is a classic. It’s not going to be easy for the 20th Century Fox marketing team to convince longtime fans that Gil Kenan‘s film might actually be a worthy remake, and they’re definitely not going to do so by releasing clips like this. Collider had the honor of premiering the very first Poltergeist clip a couple of weeks ago. I can’t say there was anything particularly mind-blowing about it, but it did successfully recreate an iconic scene from the original within a more modern setting. This one, however, doesn’t achieve much at all. In fact, it just states the obvious in a rather dull manner. No, you don’t want to spoil your big scares promoting the film, but showing off something with a little more life to it than this would have been nice.
Watch Jane Adams‘ character explain what a poltergeist is capable of in the new clip below. The movie opens in 2D and 3D on May 22nd, and also stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris, Saxon Sharbino, Kyle Catlett, Kennedi Clements, Susan Heyward and Nicholas Braun.

Here’s the official synopsis for Poltergeist:
Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spiderman,” “Evil Dead”, “The Grudge”) and director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever.
