As a diehard fan of the 1982 original, I am beyond thrilled to unveil the very first clip from Gil Kenan’s Poltergeist remake. Just like in Tobe Hooper’s film, Kenan’s will feature a family that moves into a new home and comes to learn that their development was built on a cemetery, but not before some nasty evil forces make contact with their eight-year-old daughter (Kennedi Clements) and bring her into their realm. There’s been a good deal of talk about how Kenan is putting a contemporary spin on the classic tale and you can really feel it in this clip. The setting and tech are modern, but the conversation between little Madison and the TV static is clearly right in line with the same scene from the original film.

Sticking with the theme of adapting to modern times and trying something completely new, we’re also embracing the new app on the rise, Periscope. On Thursday, May 7th at 5pm PST, Collider will be hosting a Periscope event that will open up a portal to “the other side,” the grim half-way point where the Poltergeist takes its victims. The portal will open for about 5 to 10 minutes at a time and give you the chance to have a personal interaction with an evil entity from the other side. Make sure you're following ColliderNews on Twitter for more info.

You can check out the very first Poltergeist clip featuring Clements having a chat with her new friends below. Poltergeist opens in 2D and 3D on May 22nd, and also stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris, Saxon Sharbino, Kyle CatlettSusan Heyward, Jane Adams and Nicholas Braun.

Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spiderman,” “Evil Dead”, “The Grudge”) and director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever.
