First Image of Kit Harington in Paul W.S. Anderson’s POMPEII

     August 20, 2013

For those annoyed by all the layers Kit Harington’s Jon Snow sports in HBO’s Game of Thrones, the actor has taken a rather bare approach to his wardrobe in the upcoming Mount Vesuvius actioner Pompeii.  The first image from director Paul W.S. Anderson’s (Resident Evil, The Three Musketeers) disaster film shows off Harington’s incredibly toned lead character, Milo, who is an enslaved Celtic gladiator.  The story follows Milo as he falls in love with a noblewoman (Emily Browning) on the eve of a massive volcanic eruption that destroys Pompeii, an event that also brings him face-to-face with the man who slaughtered his family years earlier.  Harington bulked up for the role in order to convincingly play a gladiator, and his training definitely appears to have paid off.

Hit the jump to take a look at the image.  The film also stars Kiefer Sutherland, Jared Harris, Carrie-Anne Moss, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jessica Lucas, and Paz VegaPompeii opens in 3D on February 21, 2014.

Paul W.S. Anderson needs to take some notes from better filmmakers.

Kit Harington needs to take some notes from better actors. Maybe the two of them could make a day of it.

Between this and Silent Hill 2 Kit needs to fire his agent first…

It’s funny, when you see this dude’s abs in Game of Thrones 1.01, you think, okay that dude’s in good shape, and then you see his abs here and you KNOW they’re photoshopped.

The thing is, the imagery can look like pure gold but it still doesn’t hide the fact that Anderson is behind the camera. One utterly terrible director, elbeit Event Horizon.

Wait Milla Jovovich isnt on the cast listing. Is that an error?

Sounds intriguing. Too bad it’s from the director of some truly awful shit like Alien vs. Predator, Mortal Kombat, Death Race, The Three Musketeers and Soldier. His best film is a half-assed Hellraiser ripoff in space that coasts on some cool imagery but lacks in story, character and overall tension. He’s just as bad as John Moore, maybe even worse.

I’m betting I won’t be able to stay away because “well, it’s a swords-and-sandals flick and I love those and how bad could it possibly be” and in the end it’ll be another PWSA film: terrible.
