Teaser Trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson’s POMPEII Starring Kit Harington, Emily Browning, and Kiefer Sutherland

     August 21, 2013

FilmDistrict has released the first teaser trailer for Resident Evil and The Three Musketeers director Paul W.S. Anderson’s upcoming Mount Vesuvius actioner Pompeii.  The film stars Kit Harington as an enslaved Celtic gladiator named Milo who falls in love with a noblewoman (Emily Browning) on the eve of a massive volcanic eruption that destroys Pompeii, an event that also brings him face-to-face with the man who slaughtered his family years earlier.  This teaser opens up by quietly playing on the familiar imagery of the Pompeii citizens fossilized in ash, followed by a brief glimpse of footage.  While it’s tough to suss out the character interplay from this teaser, it’s clear that Anderson is not holding back when it comes to volcano carnage (as if you thought he would).  We’ve come a long way since Dante’s Peak and Volcano, folks.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Kiefer Sutherland, Jared Harris, Carrie-Anne Moss, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jessica Lucas, and Paz VegaPompeii opens in 3D on February 21, 2014.

Emily Browning! The reason why I’m seeing this in the first place. :)

This is some Oscar gold right hear. The performances are barely whispered in this teaser, yet come 2014, we will expect a hell of performances from Harington and Browning. And not since The Lone Ranger has the CGI been so gorgeously rendered. Paul W.S. Anderson, after all, is one of the best directors of our generation, alongside Brett “Rehearsal is for ****” Ratner and Michael “What story?” Bay.

Wow for a second there all I kept saying to myself was “no, man…no, man…”

To be fair, Paul Anderson usually has some really great action sequences in his films, as long as there are no guns involved that is. From what I’ve seen, he has no idea how to handle scenes where people are shooting at one another. As far as hand to hand and melee weapon combat though, he does a great job with it.

      Totally had me going.

I already said in the other thread, PWSA is a director whose output consists of one sort-of passable film and several really, really terrible ones. This looks like an episode of Spartacus, but without the great characters, the gnarly mutilations and the ubiquitous nudity. And then, what’s the point?

For a Paul WS Anderson movie, this looks surprisingly not completely terrible, I’m sure it still will be but have to like the fact that Emily Browning and Jon Snow are in it at least.

    You know nothing, Jon Snooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow

    • wow
