TriStar Pictures has released a new trailer for director Paul W.S. Anderson’s disaster epic Pompeii.  The film stars Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) as an enslaved Celtic gladiator named Milo who falls in love with a noblewoman (Emily Browning) on the eve of a massive volcanic eruption that destroys Pompeii, an event that also brings him face-to-face with the man (Kiefer Sutherland) who slaughtered his family years earlier.  While this trailer teases a bit of the character interplay between Harington and Browning, the main focus is on the massive amount of destruction that Anderson unleashes in the film—which is to be expected when your movie is titled Pompeii.

Here’s the official synopsis for Pompeii:

Set in 79 A.D., POMPEII tells the epic story of Milo (Kit Harington), a slave turned invincible gladiator who finds himself in a race against time to save his true love Cassia (Emily Browning), the beautiful daughter of a wealthy merchant who has been unwillingly betrothed to a corrupt Roman Senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts in a torrent of blazing lava, Milo must fight his way out of the arena in order to save his beloved as the once magnificent Pompeii crumbles around him.

I didn’t know TriStar Pictures was still around. I thought they went bankrupt like Orion.

    • Mixed Race rich kid NYC

      Tristar is owned by Sony
How the f*ck is it gonna go broke ???

      • The Destroyer

Because they haven’t released any major releases since 1998. Hince the reason they were bought by Sony in the first place. Now it seems like Sony has relaunched them as their own company.

      • Mixed Race rich kid NYC

        Sony had tristar since 1991
I guess they kept it as a television studio since 1998

        Tristar just released Elysium…

I once took some acid and had this insanely vivid scene of the destruction of Pompeii play in my head while listening to Metallica’s “Call of ktulu”. It was pretty epic. I’m not sure this will top that, but I love an exploding volcano and Harrington’s six pack is on another level entirely.

Looks fun, effects look pretty good. Is the acting and story up to much? I doubt it.

  • Werefon

It is looking good because P W S can creat visuals, also he didn’t wrote it and it has a chance to be good.

it must suck being the shitty Paul Anderson

  • Julio Navas

I have the impression that Anderson is trying to ¨remake¨ Gladiator.

This looks so bad it may turn out to be good, but I doubt it…

      POMPEIII. POMPEIIIII.

  • The Flobbit

Hmm…the cast is good and there is potential, but Anderson does his best to make us hate him. Watching this space, not yet making up my mind…
