It's not a big surprise that IFC would renew its most popular and well-known show, but it's still great news. Portlandia, if you didn't know, is a satirical sketch comedy show that focuses on an unbelievably on-point cast of characters, played by Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein (plus an amazing combination of actors and musicians who drop by throughout, like Steve Buscemi, Rose Byrne, Bill Hader, Patton Oswalt, Paul Reubens, Sarah McLachlan, Seth Myers, and many, many more).

Currently in its fifth season, IFC has now ordered seasons six and seven for the series, each comprising of 10 episodes each. IFC president Jennifer Caserta said of the renewal,

Portland may be a place where young people go to retire, but IFC is not retiring Portlandia. And if you order a book from Toni and Candace at the Feminist Bookstore right now, it might even arrive by the time season seven rolls around.

It's funny 'cause it's true!

If you for some reason haven't caught up with the show, its first four seasons are streaming on Netflix. It's insidery to a certain degree, but there will be some characters you probably recognize from your own town. At the very least, though, you can enjoy its off-the-wall and deeply perceptive humor.

Season 5 of Portlandia airs Thursdays at 10pm ET/PT on IFC.
