With his sequel to 2007′s “Halloween” remake in the can, it looks like writer/director/producer Rob Zombie’s set his sights on a new franchise: “The Blob”. This late 50′s Steve McQueen classic told the story of a red alien mass that consumes all it touches. But Zombie says he has a few ideas of his own to vary his from the original. More on Zombie’s shocking new take after the jump.

Rob Zombie image (1).jpgVariety reports that, though Mr. Zombie prefers to keep most of his secrets under tight wraps, he will say that the first thing that’s changing is titular blob itself. According to Zombie, “That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now.” Exactly what he intends to replace the amorphous mass with, he won’t say. But fellow producer Richard Saperstein says the film will be R, and it will have a budget on par with blockbusters “Cloverfield” and “District 9.” Oh yeah, and Zombie intends to write the script at the same time he records his new album. Talk about a multi-hyphenate.

We can only hope that this iteration fares better than 1988′s “The Blob” flop. But then again, looking at the financial returns on “Halloween,” I’m sure Genre Co., the production company helming the project, isn’t too concerned.

Zombie is one of the most over rated divas working today. What have you done for us Rob? Did you keep your hair really long and all heavy metal? Did you remake Halloween? Did you scowl at the camera like an utter tool? Way to go buddy – I’ve got a golf clap right here for you…
