Blubberella, the next film set to grace the screen from infamous schlock-artist Uwe Boll (pictured above giving the finger) and his German production company Boll AG, is primed to be the director’s magnum opus based on the official synopsis alone. The summary is vague to say the least, but the gist is it’s a horror-comedy in which an obese female vigilante dispatches her victims in an appropriately ill-fitting corset and trench coat whilst wielding two blades that, in the fuzzy poster, appear to be strapped to extremities where folks traditionally have hands. Lindsay Hollister (Get Smart), Clint Howard (Apollo 13), Michael Paré (BloodRayne), and Uwe Boll himself star.  Hit the jump for more on the film, the hysterically vague and offensive synopsis, and the poster.

Blubberella is nowhere to be found on Boll’s International Movie Database profile and little else has been revealed with regards to the meat of the plot, but my guess is that it will take a backseat to jokes pertaining to the disproportionate volume of meat on the heroine anyhow. Boll’s classy that way. That said its status is currently listed as being in post-production, so for better or worse we’ll all know soon enough. The announcement of Blubberella makes it Boll’s 3rd film scheduled for release behind his concentration camp drama Auschwitz and BloodRayne: The Third Reich, the third in the series.

The first female fat superhero …
She will kick major ass – with her major ass …

All the BLOODRAYNE fans will love that movie!”

For those unfamiliar with Uwe Boll’s reputation among critics and some moviegoers, “hack” might do nicely. Within the geek community, of which I am a sitting member, he has broken countless fans’ hearts by adapting (and by adapting I mean defecating on) popular video game franchises with films such as BloodRayne and, most recently, the straight-to-DVD Far Cry. For perspective, in 2005, movie fans became so appalled that they began an online petition to thwart his career or, at the very least, turn a mirror on his creative vision (covered here). From the look of things, I’d say they failed. When one takes the quality of his pictures with a grain of salt and in the presence of a group of rowdy buddies, however, the flicks are admittedly entertaining in the most marginal interpretation. This latest effort has forced me to reconsider the notion that he is fully aware of this fact and is, in his own words, a “genius”.

Rampage was pretty decent and despite what people think , In the Name of the King was excellent. However that is enough Boll for me to last a lifetime…

Name one thing that was decent about Rampage. It definitely wasn’t the acting, the writing, the script, the story, the production, the anything. It had shock value… Like somebody going on a rampage through town.

I’d like some of what this guy’s smoking.

I’m with you man, I thought Rampage was a very enjoyable movie to watch. The only reason people don’t mention it is so that people can go on calling Uwe Boll “a hack” even though he has proven himself to be a somewhat competent director. And to Cropes, aren’t the “script, writing, and story” considered the same thing. The acting was more than passable and that’s mostly because the movie “improv-ed”.

Script and writing are the same, but story is a different element altogether
        I just recently watched rampage
It was actually quite entertaining, despite it’s highly noticeable flaws…

Agree. Like most of Uwe Boll’s films it’s flawed as hell, But I found myself interested the whole time. I give his movies a few minutes like I would any other directors. Rampage and In the Name… were the only ones that I didn’t give up on. lol

I have to say, I find Postal hilarious. Not a well made film, by any means. But, ridiculously funny all the same. We saw it at a small theatre in SF. Only ones in theatre. And, we sat laughing our heads off the whole way through. Granted, we did have some herbal supplements that enhanced the viewing…

Uwe Boll sucks and Rampage was dumb as hell (just because you’re a loser and someone cant make your coffee right that is suppose to justifiy killing a whole town? what?) I love violence just as much as the next person but only when it is earned Uwe Boll and his movies are just too juvenile and his direction is like a cross between a kid with ADHD and a one eyed chimpanzee on crack

i just dont understand how this guy has a career…ok, critical backlash, fan backlash and hate should be enough to destroy his career since he basically poops on fanboy hearts by destroying everything they love about video games when he transitions them to film…..however, shouldn’t the fact that none of his movies made any bank at the box office be enough to demolish his career? if a guy keeps making films that no one wants to see, how the eff does he keep getting funding to make more?? who would invest in him, and why would they even want to invest if they know it wont turn in a profit? i’m sure if i gave this guy $$ once to make a film i wouldnt do it again because i would get none of that $$ back. ….i can understand people hating michael bay and not being able to do anything about it but face it….he’s going nowhere….his movies make big time bank regardless of how stupid they are…..but unlike bowls movies, bays has the ability to entertain in a brainless way, whereas bolls movies are shockingly mindless bores and poorly shot and just a pain to look at. i’ll take michael bay over uwe boll for making movies anytime

From Wikipedia: “Until the law was changed in 2005, Boll was able to acquire funding thanks to German tax laws that reward investments in film. The law allowed investors in German-owned films to write off 100% of their investment as a tax deduction; it also allowed them to invest borrowed money and write off any fees associated with the loan. The investor was then only required to pay taxes on the profits made by the movie; if the movie loses money, the investor got a tax writeoff.”

Also see http://www.somethingawful.com/d/feature-articles/behind-scenes-uwe.php It’s an article from someone who worked with Boll on “Alone in the Dark” where he talks about the experience. I was excited when I heard about the movie being made and then I saw the trailer for it and struggled to remember the gun fights and military platoon being in any of the games.

I can’t say I really care about the guy. Collider’s comment that he “broke fans’ hearts by ruining popular video game franchises” is a bit silly… I don’t exactly remember Bloodrayne, Far Cry, Postal, House of the Dead, etc. as being games with exceptional plots that required the Scorcese touch.

Yeah his work sucks (even rampage, sorry guys), but I’m pretty sure he does hack stuff on purpose since it gets him attention, it’s that whole “any press is good press” angle. He embraces the jeers and boos, if you really want to twist the knife, just ignore the guy.

He does deserves some credit though… who doesn’t want to smack the crap out of people talking shit on the internet from time to time?
