An adaptation of the Garth Ennis comic Preacher has been in the works for years, but it wasn’t until Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg got ahold of the property that it finally found its way to the screen. Instead of trying to cram the story into a feature film, the This Is the End filmmakers envisioned it as a TV series, setting the drama up at AMC and enlisting Breaking Bad alum Sam Catlin to serve alongside them as executive producer and showrunner.

This all happened a little over a year ago, and now we’re on the cusp of the Preacher series finally being unveiled to the public. The 2-hour pilot, which Rogen and Goldberg directed, is premiering at SXSW next week, and ahead of the debut Rogen has released new images from the show that reveal the core trio.

Dominic Cooper plays the titular preacher, Jesse Custer, a small-town Texas pastor who is imbued with the word of God, which allows him to command other people. The other two principal characters are Jesse’s old flame Tulip, played by Ruth Negga, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, played by Joseph Gilgun. These three make up this trio of new images, offering a tease of their interpretations of the characters, but rest assured folks—Arseface is in the show, as portrayed by Ian Colletti. He’s just being kept under wraps for now.

The first trailer for the series promises a very violent, dark adaptation in keeping with the tone of the comic series, and judging by what The Walking Dead is able to get away with on the same network, I imagine we’re in for a drama that pulls no punches.

Check out the images below and look for our review of the pilot from SXSW on Collider soon. Preacher premieres on AMC later this year.
