A new trailer for the thriller Premium Rush has gone online.  The film was initially slated to open in January of this year before being pushed back to August, so we saw the first theatrical trailer way back in September.  Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as a New York bicycle messenger who has a routine delivery turn into a life or death situation.  I’m a big fan of both Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon, who plays the film’s antagonist, but I’m unable to muster any real enthusiasm for this pic.  The trailer plays up the film’s high-octane thriller aspect while singling out a lot of bike stunts, but I can’t help but feel like Premium Rush would have been more relevant/enticing during the X-Games boom in the 90s. That said, with Gordon-Levitt and Shannon in the cast I’m willing to give the film a shot.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Co-written and directed by David Koepp (Secret Window), the film also stars Jamie Chung and Dania RamirezPremium Rush opens on August 24th.

Here’s the synopsis for Premium Rush:

A New York bike messenger is given an envelope by a young woman at an uptown Manhattan college and is told he has 90 minutes to deliver it to an address in Chinatown. Complications ensue when an undercover police office appears and demands the envelope on special grounds. The truth, hidden motivations, and the life-and-death stakes on all sides are revealed through a series of flashbacks as the cop and the messenger engage in a length-of-Manhattan chase, racing against time after the messenger discovers the precious nature of the envelope’s slender contents. This movie also stars Jamie Chung (Grown Ups, Hangover II), Dania Ramirez (Entourage, Heroes), Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire)

i think the cast is great, but seriously this movie looks lame i’m not surprised it keeps getting pushed.

Looks really cool. Maybe because i knew a bike messenger and he was cool.

Although the premise seems silly it also looks like a cool movie haha and I love JG-L so definitely excited.

Mattina look at when it was pushed to. It got pushed from January which is the dumping grounds to August which is a decent month for movies. The push is actually a good thing, if it came out January thats a sign that it was a bad movie or at least that the studio had no faith in it.

you speak the truth, i just thought this was it’s second or third time being pushed. i could be wrong.

Seriously man-crushing on JGL and Michael ‘Crazy Eyes’ Shannon. Same month that Total Recall is released as well. Can’t wait to see ‘em both.

Seriously, 2012 is kicking ass for movies and a great time to be a geek!
