Screen Gems has released some new Pride and Prejudice and Zombies images. Directed by Burr Steers (Igby Goes Down) and based on the parody novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, the story follows Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) and her sisters Lydia (Ellie Bamber), Mary (Millie Brady), Jane (Bella Heathcote), and Kitty (Suki Waterhouse) as they try to navigate societal pressures of the landed gentry and fend off hoards of zombies.

Speaking to EW, Steers explained how he was approaching the film more as a spin on Jane Austen than a B-movie. “The idea was that it was Pride and Prejudice set in this alternate world and then for everyone to play it straight,” says Steers. “The movie’s big wink is that there is no big wink.”

That’s a difficult line to walk. You don’t want to be stodgy with a ridiculous premise, but at the same time, constantly winking at the audience can be incredibly irritating, especially when good parody never acknowledges its own ridiculousness. The movie can still be funny, but James says, “It’s definitely not camp.”

So it’s really an expectations game, and that makes Pride’s Comic-Con panel one of the more interesting ones. While it will be nice to see footage from Batman v Superman and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, those movies are basically guaranteed to be hits. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies needs to build serious buzz, so I'm curious to see if the Comic-Con presentation next Saturday will hold the crowd’s attention or if it will be when people go to grab a snack or use the restroom.

Check out the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies images below. The film opens February 19, 2016, and also stars Lena Headey, Charles Dance, Matt Smith, Douglas Booth, Jack Huston and Sam Riley.
