Trailer for PRIEST Starring Paul Bettany

The unintentionally hilarious trailer for Priest has gone online.  I challenge you not to giggle at the deadly-serious tone, the crappy-CGI vampires, or lazy scares.  While I’m a huge Paul Bettany fan, the dude needs a hit.  The only positive in the trailer is it looks like Karl Urban is having way too much fun.  I want this flick to be better than the wretched Legion, Bettany’s last collaboration with director Scott Charles Stewart, but this trailer doesn’t give me a lot of hope.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Priest also stars Maggie Q, Cam Gigandet, Stephen Moyer, and Christopher Plummer.  It opens in 3D in spring 2011.

Here’s the official synopsis for Priest:

Set for release in spring 2011, this Screen Gems thriller is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi ride, set in an alternate world – one ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on a quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece’s boyfriend, a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess who possesses otherworldly fighting skills.  Directed by Scott Charles Stewart and written by Cory Goodman along with Min-Woo Hyung from the graphic novel series “Priest”, PRIEST stars Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Lily Collins, Brad Dourif, Stephen Moyer, and Christopher Plummer.

  1. Why so negative dude? That looked pretty cool! Perhaps let people watch it first before your comments cloud their judgments.

  2. i havent giggled once.premise looks good and bettany too.and you do know that this movie is 8 months from its release date.cgi will be much better

  3. uhm… no it won’t. The cg work done in the trailer would be finished product, they aren’t going to go redo all the effects after already doing them once. This is destined to be a B-movie. The question is, will it be a financially successful and entertaining B-movie? Doubtful, but Bettany is deserving of it.

I really liked him in A Knight’s Tale and Wimbledon.
