With a July 1, 2011 release date, director Michael Bay’s Transformers 3 is moving full steam ahead with filming set to begin next month and major action sequences filming in Chicago and Moscow.  It was also revealed other filming would take place in LA, Washington DC, Florida, Texas, Africa, and China.  What I’m trying to say is…the sequel is going to be huge.

Anyway, a few weeks ago we reported John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, and Ken Jeong had joined the cast.  In our original report, we said Malkovich would play Sam Witwicky’s (Shia LaBeouf) first boss and McDormand will have a major role as the “National Intelligence Director”.   And after speaking with producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, it seems the first report was accurate.  Hit the jump for what he said:

lorenzo_di_bonaventura.jpgI was recently with a group of online reporters and we got the chance to speak with Di Bonaventura.  When we asked him who Malkovich plays he told us:

Lorenzo Di Bonaventura: You know we don’t talk a lot about that script, but he’s going to have a lot of interaction with Shia in that movie. And he’s got a really fun character. And he’s going to bring a really interesting spin to that franchise so it’s going to be great.

His answer seems to confirm Malkovich will play someone close to LaBeouf…and his first boss sounds pretty accurate.

As I have said a few times, while I loved the first Transformers movie, I thought Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was a letdown.  But with plenty of pre-production time for the third film (which was missing on the 2nd due to the writers’ strike), I’m very optimistic Transformers 3 is going to be good.  Fingers crossed.

Both Transformers 1 and 2 sucked. Bay is simply a hack, and his handling of action sequences is inelegant and scattered at best.

Plus, they need to either fire Fox or give her some serious acting lessons.

Sounds good, can't wait for the 3rd.
Should be as good as the 1 and 2.

    End of Line

Malkovich is great. a true actor. he would have been better placed in Wall Street 2 than Transformers 3. Though… Shia seems to have made the most of that role:
