Lorenzo di Bonaventura is a power-hitting producer in Hollywood. He produced both Transformers movies and one of the summer’s surprise hits G.I. Joe. He’s currently working on Salt starring Angelina Jolie and Red which stars Bruce Willis and pretty much everyone else in Hollywood. According to IMDb, Di Bonaventura has 31 other projects in development and he’s about to make it 32-38 as he’s just acquired the six-part fantasy series The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, which has been compared to the Harry Potter series. Hit the jump for more details.
If the name “Nicholas Flamel” sounds familiar to Potter fans, it’s because his character was mentioned as the creator of the “Sorcerer’s Stone” in the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (or Philosopher’s Stone for our British readers). The Alchemyst, The Magician, and The Sorceress, the first three books in Michael Scott’s six-part series are already in publication in 37 countries and 20 languages. The fourth book in the series, The Necromancer is due out in May 2010.
According to Variety, the books follow fifteen-year-old twins Sophie and Josh as they adventure across several continents with the immortal alchemyst of the title, Nicholas Flamel. The premise sounds neat and clearly the books are already a literary success. Even cooler, Flamel was actually a real French alchemist who was born in 1330 but you may have caught that he’s immortal from the title of the series. You may think that immortality isn’t possible but you need look no further than Larry King who clearly stole Flamel’s secret.

There have been a lot of HP wannabees out there, but this, I think is the real deal. It has it all, a great story, grounded in history. And LdiB is no slouch. He got HP off the ground at Warner, if anyone knows a winner, its him.

I love this series, but they have been talking of a movie since 2007. I’m scared to death that the movie won’t do the books justice as there is so much detail and inside information in the book that the producers might have to skip out on. Harry Potter is a big name to live up to, I hope for the sake of my favorite book series, that they can get this movie right. >.<
*Fingers crossed*
