Warner Bros. made some release date announcements today, and in the process finally dated its Project X sequel. The studio will drop Project XX on August 19, 2016, where it will open opposite LAIKA’s next animated feature Kubo and the Two Strings. WB first put the follow-up into development in 2012, fresh off a respectable opening weekend for the found footage party pic Project X, but it appears that it’s taken them a bit to get the thing off the ground. It’s unclear who will direct or if any of the cast will return (Thomas Mann led the pic, while Miles Teller had a supporting role), but if I had to guess I'd say it'll just be another found footage party movie with a new cast. It’ll be interesting to see how the follow-up performs four years after the original came out, especially considering the first film wasn't exactly a culture phenomenon.

Additionally, the drama The Accountant has been given the curious release date of January 29, 2016. Warrior helmer Gavin O’Connor directs and Ben Affleck stars in the action-thriller about a mild-mannered accountant who moonlights as a lethal assassin. The pic will open opposite Kung Fu Panda 3 and the Disney coast guard drama The Finest Hours, which stars Affleck’s brother Casey Affleck.

The January release date is an odd move for The Accountant, which Affleck wanted to star in so badly that he pushed his next directorial vehicle Live by Night back a second time. But the cast is excellent, so here’s hoping it’s just a smart piece of programming. Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, and John Lithgow also star.

WB has also given a March 11, 2016 release date for director Todd Phillips’ first film since The Hangover Part III. The aptly named Arms & the Dudes stars Miles Teller and Jonah Hill as pot-smoking arms dealers who get caught up in a whirlwind of trouble. The movie will open directly opposite the Matthew McConaughey-fronted Civil War drama Free State of Jones, the historical drama Christ the Lord, and an untitled Bad Robot film.

Finally, WB’s “Special Event Film” dated for January 15, 2016 has been removed from its schedule, and an Untitled New Line horror film has been moved up to January 22, 2016. The safe bet is on this being an Annabelle sequel.
