A couple of weeks ago we found out that Ridley Scott is planning to shoot Prometheus 2 in January 2016, but there was no word on how that might affect Neill Blomkamp's Alien film. However, now, Bloody Disgusting has those details.
According to their source, Scott is insisting that 20th Century Fox hold off on Alien 5 until after Prometheus 2 goes into production. Here's the full quote:
“Alien 5 is still very much in the works, as Fox remains hot on the idea. Blomkamp continues to work on the script (only an outline existed previously) and refine the tale he is telling. Ridley Scott is still producing, but has insisted on Prometheus 2 being made first.”
I guess that's a reasonable request considering Scott is working on both projects, but as someone who's far more excited about Alien 5 than Prometheus 2, the thought of possibly having to wait until 2018 to see it is a bit disappointing. On the bright side, the delay will give Blomkamp loads of time to refine the script and apparently it'll also help accommodate Sigourney Weaver's schedule, which may be tight due to the Avatar films. If this report is accurate and all goes to plan, Alien 5 will shoot in 2017 and that means we could get Prometheus 2 in 2017 and then Alien 5 right after in 2018.
On top of that, Bloody Disgusting's source also addressed Michael Biehn's recent comments that the new film will ignore the events of Alien3 and Alien Resurrection. The source claims that that might not be the case because "it’s basically far too early to tell on that front right now."
