New Image from PROMETHEUS Takes You to the Stars

     March 7, 2012

Last week, the viral campaign for Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus began with a TED Talk from the future given by Weyland Industries CEO, Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce).  This led to the Weyland Industries website, and now the website has yielded an amazing image.  The high-resolution image shows the star map room glimpsed in the teaser trailer.  It doesn’t really offer up any clues about the film’s plot (at least not that I can see), but the image would make for an awfully pretty desktop wallpaper.

Hit the jump to check out the stunning image.  The film also stars Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, and Michael FassbenderPrometheus opens in 3D on June 8th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Prometheus:

Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.

A lot of Alien imagery in the design of that room.

I’m obviously not the first one to think this, but this film so clearly has more to do with Aliens than Scott has made it appear. The style of the room in this shot is very similar to the architecture seen in the Alien films, and Scott doesn’t seem like one to let all of the details about a film like this go without a fight.

    Cannot wait, this looks amazing.

I am reminded of Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat the movie.

    Pliskin, out.

The person standing on the platform in the middle of the pic is relatively tiny in comparison to the two doorways on either side of the room – perhaps the extraterrestrials in this movie are much *taller than humans?

(*I don’t know any details about this film, this may already be common knowledge?)

Well of course there are going to similarities, because this is an origin story in two different aspects. What do Xenomorphs do? They take on the characteristics of their host species and a lot of what you see regarding Xenomorphs are relative to the Space Jockeys/Navigators. Which came fist, the Xenomorph or the egg? in this case it would be the Space Jockeys that came first and the Xenomorphs began as one thing and then, for some as yet unknown reason, evolved into the beast we are familiar with.
