20th Century Fox has changed the release date for Ridley Scott’s original sci-fi film Prometheus.  Heat Vision confirms that the project, originally slated for a March 9th release, will now hit theaters on June 8th, 2012.  Although details regarding the film are currently sparse, we do know that Damon Lindelof (LostCowboys & Aliens) is currently re-working the script with Scott and that Noomi Rapace is set to star in the summer tentpole.

For the sake of context, it’s important to mention that news of Prometheus release date change comes not far removed from Disney’s announcement that its John Carter of Mars adaptation is now set for a March 9th release.  As for Scott, in addition to Prometheus, it was reported earlier today that he and brother Tony are using their Scott Free moniker to produce a 1960s period television series entitled The Drivers.  For more on that project, hit the jump.

shelby-the-man-the-cars-the-legend-book-coverDeadline reports that Ridley and Tony Scott’s Scott Free production label will co-produce The Drivers with Headline Pictures and Sennet Entertainment.  Per the report, the series is based on Wallace A. Wyss’ tome Shelby: The Man, the Cars, the Legend and will focus on the 24-hour race in Le Mans during the 1950s-60s.  In the report, R. Scott describes the series thusly:

“This is a hugely ambitious project and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tell the story of these iconic and legendary men who risked everything to win at Le Mans. It’s an epic story of courage and ambition and a history of racing which has never been told on such a grand scale.”

Here’s the synopsis for Wyss’ book:

Carroll Hall Shelby was a character, an icon in car culture, and has accomplished and failed at many things in life from chicken farmer to an 83 year old man who is now (again) advising Ford on the creation of a Shelby Mustang. The book goes back into Shelbys history in racing, the beginnings of the Cobra, the Daytona, the 427 Cobra, Fords battle for LeMans, the front drive Shelby Dodges, the infamous Series I, Shelbys participation in the development of the Viper, his quarter century-long running battle with the army of Cobra clonesters, and much more [from Monster Marketplace].
