The viral campaign for Prometheus continues to be absolutely spectacular, as a new video has surfaced online featuring Noomi Rapace’s character sending a video message to one Mr. Peter Weyland (played by Guy Pearce).  She expresses that she knows where answers can be found to some of life’s biggest questions, and she pleads for Weyland to fund an expedition.  All of this is augmented by a trippy computer program and some seriously eerie musical undertones.  The viral campaign kicked off with a wonderfully chilling TED talk by Pearce, followed by a fantastic video featuring Michael Fassbender’s character.  Scribe Damon Lindelof recently talked about how the idea of these viral videos came about and how they hint at the film’s relationship to Alien.

Hit the jump to watch the video.  Director Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is set to open on June 8th in 3D.

Here’s the synopsis for Prometheus:

Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

    • I think all those faces are all the ‘Elizabeth Shaws’ and variants the system found and it is matching the facial features and expressions to the Elizabeth Shaw in the camera, to ensure she is who she says she is.

  1. Best viral from the movie I’ve seen yet. Proving all the while that she’s gonna steal the film. Long live Noomi!!! :)

  2. Wasn’t it established thet Yutani is the family name of Charles Bishop Weyland’s wife?

And before anyone says those AVP films don’t count anymore ( I wish they didn’t ), they are still part of canon, as Prometheus is not a ‘reboot’ but an in-universe pre-story of the Alien-verse…

    • No, they don’t count. Where did you get the idea that they’re part of the cannon? Never in any of the Alien films was said that Yutani has any relationship with any “Bishop Weyland”, another character from the alternate universe of the crossover.

      • My point is “Why wouldn’t those movies count”? They were made and distributed by Fox, utilising Fox property on an official basis, and were released cinematically. They weren’t multimedia ‘spinoffs’, but official movies.

Just because we dislike them, we cannot dismiss them is what I’m saying. Officially, they are ‘canonical’ – even their directors described them as such.

I’m raising an important point – can we dismiss the canonicity of something just because it is rubbish??

Canonically, Charles Bishop Weyland is the ancestor of Peter ( Guy Pearce ) Weyland. Yutani, according to AVP:R is the wife of CB Weyland ( and presumably ) head of her own ‘Yutani’ corporation.

      • They weren’t movies. They were abortions. Also they’re not canon because they mixed two completely separate universes together. Predator and Aliens have nothing to do with each other.

  3. Actually, “canonically speaking” film companies have often viewed, and established, that side projects (whether by outside sources or inside projects) are just that, and not canon. Just because they were distributed by Fox does not mean that they are official Alien film canon.

  4. Predator 2 established the Alien skull in the Trophy Cabinet of the spaceship, ergo they both exist in the same universe…

There was nothing ‘on-screen’ in any of the AVP movies to suggest they took place in an alternate universe, therefore we have to accept – whether we like it or not – that those movies too are canonical…

    • The Xenomorph skull in Predator 2 was more of an Easter egg or wink at the comics. It was there for movie fans to say “Oh, look it’s the creauture from Alien.” Alien and Predator are great on their own. We don’t need to combine universes for the sake of entertainment because those two movies almost brought down both franchises. Also Ridley Scott was the one who basically created Alien. I’m sure he can do whatever the hell he wants. I’m glad he hated those movies. Prometheus will ignore the AVP series like it should. Sorry for the poorly constructed sentences. Typing as I think of what to say.

  5. If you don’t respond… I’ll shove a dildo up your arse and tattoo your chest… I look forward to hearing from you…

  6. ‘Canon’ assumes a single author or original story. With AVP there exists no such thing. It was just a mishmash that really gelled well together.

Although aliens exist in the predator universe, there’s no reason to believe predators exist in the alien universe, as has been the case in every alien movie yet. (5 movies counting prometheus)
