Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, The Weinsteins, Eli Roth, and More to Roast Quentin Tarantino

     August 26, 2010

You may believe that, by the time we’re celebrating the career of David Hasselhoff, the celebrity roast is a dying art form.  And you’d be right.  But the Friars Club does its best to maintain the tradition of the gin-soaked roasts of the Dean Martin era.  Case in point: the club has announced a roast centered on Quentin Tarantino, with Samuel L. Jackson serving as “Roastmaster.”  Such former Tarantino collaborators as Uma Thurman, Pam Grier, Michael Madsen, Eli Roth, Rosario Dawso, and Harvey Weinstein(!) will  be on hand to poke fun at the idiosyncratic director.  Sounds like it’ll be loads of fun, and I can only hope that some internet-friendly videographer is on hand to capture it.  Hit the jump for the official press release.

NEW YORK, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ — Academy Award® winning director, writer, producer and actor Quentin Tarantino will sit in the hot-seat for the 2010 Friars Club Roast, to be held on Friday, October 1st, at The New York Hilton. Tarantino’s critically acclaimed films include Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs and Inglourious Basterds – the 2009 critically acclaimed, worldwide box-office hit starring Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, and Diane Kruger. In addition, to winning an Oscar®, Tarantino has garnered Golden Globe, SAG, and the prestigious Palme D’Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

Says Samuel L. Jackson, “I’m excited Quentin asked me to be the Roastmaster at his Friars Club Roast. Having known Quentin as long as I have now, there are many stories I’ve kept tucked away for a moment like this. I’m not so sure he won’t regret asking me once the afternoon is over!”

The Friars Club was founded in 1904 as a meeting place for entertainers and over the years has achieved legendary status. Its membership includes the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Lucille Ball, Barbra Streisand, John Travolta and Milton Berle. The Friars Club “Monastery” is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan in a classic townhouse and is a haven for entertainers young and old.
