Rachel Weisz Rumored to Play BOND 23 Villain

File this one under highly-unlikely-but-conceptually-fascinating rumors in your bizarrely-specific filing system.  Cinema Blend reports that the Bond 23 filmmakers are considering Rachel Weisz to play the head of the evil organization, Quantum in the next movie.  Other than the source, how does CB bolster this argument?  Weisz is friends with Daniel Craig (they’re co-starring in an upcoming movie!) and she had a “personal relationship” with Mendes in the past.  I’m sold.

But it would be very cool to have a woman play the next Bond villain.  I’m sure Weisz would be fantastic in the role (as she is in just about everything), but I think having a woman be the head of Quantum would be a brilliant idea. Cinema Blend is incorrect in saying that no woman has risen above henchman-status among Bond villains.  Sophie Marceau was the main baddie of The World Is Not Enough, but I understand trying to forget that movie.

What are your thoughts on having a woman play the head of Quantum? Do you think Weisz would be a good choice or do you have a better killer lady in mind?  Let us know in the comments section.

  1. “What are your thoughts on having a woman play the head of Quantum?” I'm ok with it — “Do you think Weisz would be a good choice?” Oh yes.

  2. I take Rachel Weisz in a second. She's a brilliant actress, one of the best we have working right now and she would make a killer main baddie.

  3. Sophie Marceau wasn't the main villain in World is Not Enough. Robert Carlyle was. Sophie was a woman suffering for Stockholm Syndrome because she had been captured and tortured by Robert Carlyle previously. I thought her and Pierce's chemistry was electric and the best part of the film. Personally I think World is Not Enough gets a bad rap. I rank it as Pierce's second best 007 adventure and it would be first if Denise Richards wasn't in it. It was the only Pierce film that felt like the Bond of old.

  4. This would be really great. I love Weisz and it would be a nice addition to the historically male-dominated Bond world as it would be unexpected. (except of course for this article…lol)

  5. How about Megan Fox as the leader of an all female assasin group who wear Nurses' uniforms. She can be Head Nurse. Shia Labeof can be one of her henchmen. Ha Ha!

  6. I completely agree with having a woman be the final factor in a Bond film. The Bond formula (especially recently) has a female sidekick that Bond (or the Bond girl) deals with before Bond takes out the lead bad guy. And though I somewhat agree with Elektra King being the main baddie in The World is Not Enough, for Bond formula purposes, she wasn't the one that Bond ended up having to defeat for the climax. Having a woman be the head of Quantum would be fantastic as it would be a twist on the formula we've seen time and time again.
