Fox has found its foil to Liam Neeson for Taken 2. Serbian actor Rade Sherbedgia, a recognizable face who has had memorable turns in films like Batman Begins, Snatch, and Mission: Impossible II, will take on the role of Murad. Heat Vision reports that Murad is the father of a kidnapper who met his maker at the hands of Neeson in kick-ass mode during the first film. The plot from the first film is turned on its head this time around, as the story finds Neeson and his wife (Famke Janssen) being held hostage by Murad, forcing Neeson’s daughter (Maggie Grace) to rescue them. Olivier Megaton (Colombiana) is directing a script by producer Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen. Production is set to get underway later this month in Turkey and France. Taken 2 opens October 5th, 2012.

WHAT THE . . . . . . his daughter is going to rescue him?

Do they realize that it was the ‘father’s anger over his missing daughter’ that made the 1st film worth watching to begin with? I have no problem with a kick ass chick doing all the torturing, but if they make her too macho, then it’ll look like her previous incarnation was a lie and if they tone it down, then its not “Taken” anymore . . . its Spy kids.

I was shocked when I heard this plot. Another example of the disconnect studios heads with the audience.

This just sounds like a terrible idea. If she was such a badass then why didnt she just save herself in the first movie? Now we are to believe she is a badass like daddy?
Forget all his years of military training she can become a stone cold killer in just two years!

      STUPID!!!!

This plot sounds like a disaster.

I hated the casting of Maggie Grace because clearly, Katie Cassidy was the better candidate (guess Besson didn’t see her as Ruby in Supernatural). So, Brian Mills will be reduced to a pussy then, great. AVOID!

That would be a nightmarish scenario. I would have to tell him I hae a girlfriend immediately.

Good thing she took those Tae Bo classes.

No matter what the plot for Taken 2 is (the idea of the daughter doing the ass-kicking is pretty moronic and unpalatable), Rade Sherbedgia is always a great choice for a villain, and much better than the hilariously racist middle eastern villains in the first Taken.

    to breee RADE SRBINE!!

  • Bobbi_1025

The only way I could see this being even remotely plausible isif she somehow hooks up with the team her father worked with.

Hey guys you should check your facts straight.
Rade Serbedzija is croatian, born in Croatia, lives in Croatia.
You know there is great site called IMDB.com, you can check it there.

He’s actually an ethnic Serb, his name is a clear indicator. But also another thing, the writer of this article just butchered Rade’s last name.

There’s a name for this type of plot, it’s called ‘original’.

    Wait wait…

At the end of the first film, Kim was at the home of a pop singer wanting to get singing lessons with the hopes of possibly becoming a singer—nice happy ending, screen to black, roll credits, applause (which I actually did) and all of that. Now the premise for the sequel is that dad and mom—back together and remarried (There’s a Days of Our Lives scenario lying underneath I think lol)—are held hostage and Kim has to save them?

What would be plausible is Kim wanting her dad to teach her how to use a firearm to protect herself and maybe even learn some unarmed techniques as well. Given what she had to endure and having her friend die in captivity, it’d be understandable.

However, it’s a bit of a hard sell to envision Kim doing what her father had to do to save her in order to save her parents, at least by herself. Dad’s old agency friends could lend a hand offering logistical assistance of some sort, but still there is the idea of her likely having to go all Jack Bauer “Tell me where the nerve gas… errrrrr my parents are!” which is perplexing.

I’ll still see it for sure. I just hope whatever reservations I have will erode away while watching the movie. If they can really do something with her character that makes her rescue mission plausible and the movie thrilling, then I’ll be a happy.

You’ve really put too much thought into a redundant sequel of a thoroughly unnecessary movie.
