Well before the big-screen video game adaptations of the likes of Warcraft and Assassin's Creed come to theaters next year, audiences will be treated to a feature version of Insomniac Games' Ratchet and Clank. Director Kevin Munroe's family friendly feature of the action-adventure game goes back to the first meeting of the title characters, who unite to prevent planetary destruction. And with the reveal of the film's first trailer, you now get to see that moment in CG-animated action!

Written by T.J. Fixman, Kevin Munroe (TMNT, Sly Cooper), and Gerry Swallow (Ice Age: The Meltdown), Ratchet and Clank actually features video game voice actors James Arnold Taylor as Ratchet, David Kaye as Clank, and Jim Ward as Captain Qwark. The inclusion of Fixman - a writer for the video games - and the game's actual voice cast is a huge plus for long-time fans of the series. Add in the celebrity cast of Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Bella Thorne, Rosario Dawson, Armin Shimerman, and Sylvester Stallone, and you've got a video game adaptation that might actually go big at the box office. Ratchet and Clank opens April 29, 2016.

Here's the official synopsis for Ratchet and Clank:

A CG-animated movie based on the iconic PlayStation video game. Two unlikely heroes struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind, a foolhardy “lombax” who has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own. Clank is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn. When the two stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy. Along the way, they will learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity.
