Tuesday night’s ratings are in, and while the second Presidential Debate pre-empted much of the evening’s programming we’ve still got numbers for a few series that did air.  Here’s a brief look at the highlights:

  • The rather contentious second Presidential Debate averaged 35.5 million total viewers, which is about even with the first Presidential Debate a few weeks ago and up sharply from last week’s Vice Presidential Debate.
  • Fox comedies Ben and Kate and Raising Hope were both down, garnering a 1.2 and 1.7 rating, respectively.
  • The CW’s series premiere of Emily Owens M.D. didn’t exactly make a splash, as the show premiered to a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demo and 1.7 million viewers.

FOX

  • ben-and-kate-episode-4New series Ben and Kate took a bit of a stumble this week, scoring a 1.2 rating and 2.9 million viewers.  That’s down from last week’s 1.5 rating, despite the show’s generally positive reviews.
  • Fox staple Raising Hope was also down, hitting a 1.7 rating and 4.3 million viewers, down a tad from last week’s 1.8 rating.

The CW

  • Though The CW enjoyed some stellar numbers last week with Arrow, Beauty and the Beast, and The Vampire Diaries, new series Emily Owens M.D. didn’t exactly shatter any records.  The pilot premiered to a 0.5 rating in the demo and 1.7 million viewers, down sharply from Ringer’s premiere in the same time period last year.
  • After a rough start, Hart of Dixie showed a slight uptick this week with a 0.6 rating and 1.3 million viewers, up slightly from last week’s 0.5 rating in the demo.

Presidential Debate

  • The second Presidential Debate was watched by a total of 35.5 million viewers, which is steady with the first debate’s 35.1 million viewers numbers.
  • NBC scored the highest demo rating and total viewers numbers for the debate of the five major networks, landing a 4.7 rating and 12.2 million viewers.  ABC was in a distant second place with a 2.8 rating and 11 million viewers, while Fox expectedly scored the lowest numbers.
  • More accurate numbers for the debate broadcast will be available this afternoon, at which point we’ll update this article.
