TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2 Cleans Up at Razzies with 7 Awards Including Worst Picture, Worst Director, and Worst Actress

While the 85th Academy Awards will honor the very best of what 2012 had to offer in film tonight, the opposite end of the spectrum (supposedly) has been singled out this morning.  The Razzie Awards named The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 the Worst Picture of 2012, handing the film a total of seven awards including Worst Director for Bill Condon, Worst Screen Couple for Taylor Lautner and Mackenzie Foy, and Worst Actress for Kristen Stewart (she shared this award with her work in Snow White and the Huntsman).  Though I’m not the biggest fan of the franchise, if you think Breaking Dawn – Part 2 was the worst film of 2012 then you need to see more movies; the pic almost kind of works because of Condon’s direction, not in spite of it, and the final battle scene is legitimately entertaining.

Elsewhere at the Razzies, Adam Sandler was named Worst Actor for That’s My Boy and Rihanna “won” Worst Supporting Actress for Battleship.  Hit the jump to see the full list of winners.

i watch plenty of movies, i just never watched any of this year’s bad movies

for your record, i didn’t watch any of the movies netted by the razzies

but twilight is getting too much recognition (from my ignorant pals), so it’s gotta be put in its place a little bit

  • ABCD

Now heres the prblm with razzie..they target the same actor or actress or movie franchise all the time.Twilight has always been a razzie favourite and so do adam sandler..yeah i admit they both are worse bt they r nt the worstest..if u jzt go through this year there hav been a lot of movies which are stupidly made and are utterly nonsense..bt they dont care!!
And Since Twilight is concluded they shld wrap up this stupid award show or try to do sumthng that makes sense!!

    • Zox

Bro, I don’t even know where to begin….

    • Chad

And the Razzie for worst, most embarrassing spelling and grammar in a forum post goes to… you.

You win! You’re a winner. Yay.

    • brNdon

Get your “U” key fixed, bro.

OK, I’m gonna grit my teeth and defend Twilight. Here goes:
They added a massive end battle where the book had a complete fizzle. They de-emphasized the creepy baby imprinting thing, acknowledged that it WAS creepy, and played it for laughs as well as they could. I genuinely felt the director took pity on us poor bastards who got drug to it. Overall it was a lot more self aware and action oriented than previous installments. There were movies that failed so much harder at what they attempted.
There. I’m gonna go watch SportsCenter.

From my side worse movie of 2013 Definitely goes to GHOST RIDER 2

    • brNdon

I don’t think Ghost Rider 2 should count considering it was made to be what it was on purpose. It was a conceived razzie which is why it shouldn’t be. Same with Piranha 3DD. Movies like Twilight, battleship, and That’s My Boy are much more fitting.

P.S. I watched some of Battleship the other day on HBO. I literally could not stop laughing at how badly written that movie is.

    • Pekka

Agreed. Ghostrider 2 is probably the worst movie since AvP: Requiem.

Much respect to Adam, but I simply cannot agree with his praise. Of course there were worse movies in 2012…thing is, we good filmgoers have had to put up with this ghastly franchise for the last four years, and it’s been a painful exercise. Everything about this franchise blackens the soul. They give bad messages (both subliminal and blatant) to not just young girls, but all females in general. They have created a legion of some of the most annoying, vapid and bankrupt fans…Twi-hards…the likes of which fandom would have been better off never witnessing. The films themselves are horribly acted, vapidly and shittily written…they are a big, fat joke in and of themselves. And the fact that people would spend money on this crap is the joke to end all jokes. I’m glad the Razzies decided to shove it to Twilight this last time out; after four years of torture, it was well deserved.

BTW, check out the Washington Post article that goes into greater detail with the founder of the Razzies as to why it was so well deserved:

I completely agree with Rhianna getting the Razzy, she has no business acting and her casting was merely a stunt. Also her acting was absolutely atrocious and a stand out problem I had with Battleship. I knew battleship was going to be stupid going in and was just fine with that, but I loathed myself for going knowing that such a nasty human being as that over produced singer was cast in it. She was a detriment to a movie that was going to be bad but fun.

Also I feel it is a rather nasty thing to do to give the worst onscreen couple razzy win to that little girl. I agree that Lautner is a horrid actor and with the money he earned for such utter drivel, he should be fair game for mocking. People like him are who the Razzy’s are meant for.

But to give the Razzy to a little girl, and have that tied to her name for life, is just in terrible taste. You may have been going after Lautner and she was just a casualty, but that just seems like something a real scumbag would do. Mackenzie Foy by no means deserved that kind of Humiliation at so young an age. Though I admit I did not watch the movie and cannot actually tell you if she was good or bad. I just know a little bit about good and bad taste.

I just don’t get the hate towards Battleship. It was exactly what a summer movie should be. It was fun and didn’t take itself too seriously (like Roland Emmerich’s-2012).
I think if the movie was called something else, something simple like “Invasion” – and not associated with Hasbro at all – it might have done better. I’m thinking the the association with the board game is what killed it.

  • Nope

I see a lot of movies, and sometimes I don’t skip the bad ones. That said, Twilight was actually the best of the films nominated (that I saw). Battleship takes the cake for me though. It takes some kind of miracle to make a epic alien invasion flick boring.

  • Sean

Razzies have never made an attempt to actual pick the worst. They always pick on easy and obvious targets. That’s just what they do. Obviously twilight wasn’t the worst of the year but it is the easiest target.

  • Chesterfield

Nice try, but you’re not going to get me to watch Breaking Dawn 2. Out of all these films I’ve only seen Ghost Rider and Piranha. I consider that a victory of sorts. Ghost Rider really was awful.

  • Reason

The Razzies are basically the Jason Friedberg/Aaron Seltzer parallel of awards. Unfunny, predictable, etc.
