The review embargo for Steven Spielberg's long-awaited Ready Player One has been lifted. Our written review of the film will be up in the coming days but for now, we have Perri Nemiroff and Scott Mantz in studio to discuss Spielberg's adaptation of the beloved Ernest Cline novel of the same name. Perry and Scott's reactions to the film are overwhelmingly positive, specifically praising Spielberg's ability to build an all-consuming visual world and the brilliant cast that brings Cline's world to eruptive life.

Spielberg was rumored to be taking on a number of projects when he settled on Ready Player One, beating out a host of rumored filmmakers interested in the property including Christopher Nolan, Edgar Wright, and Robert Zemeckis. It's his first science-fiction film since 2005's War of the Worlds and requires a far bigger effects budget than even that film, as much of the story takes place in the OASIS, a vast, impossibly intricate VR gaming network that pulls endlessly from modern pop culture. Wade, played by Tye Sheridan, is one of likely billions who spend much of their days in the OASIS and looks to be one of the favored contestants to win a major contest to find a hidden Easter egg in the game, the winner of which inherits the immense fortune left by the game's original creator.

Watch the video review with Perri and Scott above and be on the lookout for Collider's written review of Spielberg's latest, as well as a treasure trove of other pieces on Ready Player One and how it was made. Aside from Sheridan, the film also stars Olivia Cooke, Mark Rylance, Ben Mendelsohn, Lena Waithe, Simon Pegg, and T.J. Miller, and boasts a screenplay co-written by Cline and Zak Penn. The movie hits theaters on March 29th.

Here's the official synopsis for Ready Player One:

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
