There's a comic book-shaped vacancy on Netflix since the cancellation of shows like Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, but the works of Mark Millar's Millarworld are looking to move in pronto. Deadline reports that the streaming service will produce a film adaptation of Reborn, the series written by Millar and penciled by Greg Capullo. The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay is attached to direct, with Sandra Bullock attached to produce and possibly star.

The sci-fi comic series follows an eighty-year-old woman named Bonnie Black who dies in New York and is immediately reborn, young again, in the fantastical world of monsters and magic known as Adystria. Fighting alongside late loved ones from her past—including her long-dead father—Bonnie is pulled into the afterlife's long-waged war between good and evil. Back when Netflix acquired the rights to Millarworld back in 2017, Reborn was at the top of the list of adaptations both the streamer and fans wanted to see.

Bullock, at least, recently had a ton of success with Netflix; the Oscar-winner starred in director Susanne Bier's Bird Box, which turned out to be one of the most-streamed original films for the platform and made a ton of people on the internet fall down the stairs while wearing blindfolds. In 2018, that's a hit, baby. Joining Bullock as producer is Vertigo Entertainment, the minds behind 2017's massively successful IT adaptation.

Reborn joins Netflix's other previously-announced Millarworld projects, including Jupiter's Legacy from former Daredevil showrunner Steven S. Deknight and an Empress film written by Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser).

Here's Millarworld's official description of Reborn:

MARK MILLAR & GREG CAPULLO join forces to create the smash hit sci-fi / fantasy story of the year: REBORN.

Where do you go when you die? Not heaven or hell; somewhere else. Somewhere you have to fight to survive. Somewhere the people from the past are waiting for you—the good and the bad.
