With debut director Dan Bradley’s Red Dawn remake finally being released later this year, two new images have cropped up online.  The 1984 original, starring Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Lea Thompson, Jennifer Gray and C. Thomas Howell, became a cult classic, thanks in part to a group of American teenagers defending their town from invading forces from the Soviet Union.  Look for the remake to cast the villains as North Koreans this time around.  The surprisingly strong cast features Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Josh Peck, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Connor Cruise.  Red Dawn should finally be in theaters on November 21st of this year.  Hit the jump to see the newly released images and to read up on some choice quotes from the cast. Wolverines!

“Well, we are fighting an entire army, so that definitely stacks the odds against us. But it does help to have a superhero on your side.”

Peck comments further:

“We got a lot of firepower on our side.”

Hutcherson addresses the change in antagonists from the Chinese to the North Koreans:

“Originally it was the Chinese.  And then there was the thought that the Chinese own most of the companies making movies and that maybe it wasn’t the best idea in the world.”

Finally, Hutcherson commented on his on-screen best friend, Cruise, the son of veteran actor Tom Cruise:

“He definitely takes after his dad in the action department, 100%.”

He also quips about his lack of a love interest in Red Dawn, instead looking ahead to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, saying:

“I’ve got to save all my love for Katniss Everdeen.”

red-dawn-josh-peck-josh-hutcherson-chris-hemsworthIn Red Dawn, a city in Washington state awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky – shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganizing themselves into a guerilla group of fighters. Taking inspiration from their high school mascot, they call themselves the Wolverines, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back their freedom.

This is one movie from MGM that should’ve stayed on the shelves.

This was a pretty good remake. Saw a few years ago at a screening. The only problem was too much camera shaking in the beginning of the film, hopefully they fixed it.

    Wow. This looks horrible.

I don’t know if I’d have such perfect hair in the event of an invasion. Really. Horrible.

MGM wimped out when they changed the invading army from Chinese to North Korean…..yeah….North Korea invading is realistic….since, you know, they can’t even feed their own people, let alone invade the United States when you have at least the third of the people armed and know how to use their weapons. The fact that the Chinese are literally invading the United States using those very companies, that the studio(s) is(are) afraid of offending, is the VERY reason why they should release the film the way it was originally shot. You know, with the recent Chinese acquisition of the AMC movie theater chain. But no, you don’t want to piss off your economic overlord invaders now do you? This country has turned into a country of cowards. This seems like a minor issue, but look out, freedom of speech goes away through the auspices of political correctness and non-offensive imagery through art. I was VERY excited for this film until that change in the story. I thought they had balls until they willingly castrated themselves.
