While some studios crank out a new game every single year for a franchise (looking at you, Call of Duty), Rockstar takes far more time with their games. It’s commendable, but it can also be frustrating. Every year since 2010, there’s been more and more frustration as time passed without an announcement of a sequel to their brilliant video game, Red Dead Redemption. But today, patience has been rewarded and the studio has released the first trailer for the sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2.

So what can we expect from the sequel? Details are still scarce, but it’s possible the multiple protagonist mechanic from Grand Theft Auto V could make its way over. It’s also likely that we’ll see a lot of elements that made Grand Theft Auto Online so popular make their way over to Red Dead Redemption 2 so that Rockstar can make the multiplayer as lucrative as possible. And it’s probably safe to say that the world map for RDR2 will be much bigger than what we got for the first Red Dead, which is impressive since it’s not like the first Red Dead was a limited space by any stretch of the imagination. Hopefully, we’ll get some gameplay details soon along with this trailer.

As for the trailer itself, well it's pretty scarce—which isn't too surprising for a game that's still a year away from release. We get a look at some of the environments with the updated graphics, and a minor tease of John and his gang, and all signs certainly point to this being a prequel of sorts, taking place before the events of Red Dead Redemption.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Fall 2017.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Developed by the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland. The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.
