Looks like that Red Sonja movie is still kicking over at Nu Image/Millennium Films. We’ve been talking about this project for years now. It seemed like there was a chance it could take off with a little help from the release of Conan the Barbarian back in 2011, but then that movie flopped and Red Sonja completely fell off the radar.

However, now we’ve got THR reporting that the producers are back at it and have locked Christopher Cosmos to pen another draft of the script featuring the character created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith who is loosely based on the version in Conan the Barbarian author Robert E. Howard's 1934 short story, "The Shadow of the Vulture.”

Nearly seven years ago, Robert Rodriguez tried to make the Red Sonja movie happen with Rose McGowan, but then in 2010, a rumor surfaced that Megan Fox was being eyed for the part. A year later, Simon West was tapped to direct and it was reported that he wanted Amber Heard for the title character.

Clearly none of that panned out so even though the companies involved are making moves to get things going again, there’s definitely no guarantee that it’ll actually happen. At this point, there’s no director attached and there’s also no information on Cosmos’ approach to the source material either. But, if the folks in charge are giving this one yet another go, he’s got to have something in mind that’s worth developing. Cosmos is far from a household name, but his career has been picking up steam since he left his gig at the management/production company Benderspink. He sold his first script in 2012, he’s developing an idea called Scouts and Raiders and he’s also working on the adaptation of the comic Langley High as well.

We’ll have to wait and see if anything actually happens with his Red Sonja script, but in the meantime, you can catch the She-Devil with a Sword in action in the trailer for the 1985 film below.
