Trailer and Release Date for Producer George Lucas’ RED TAILS

by     Posted 3 years, 30 days ago

The first trailer has been release for the action-drama Red Tails.  Produced by George Lucas and directed by Anthony Hemingway, the movie is based on the true story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first all-black African-American combat squadron who fought in World War II.  Red Tails has been in development for years but now it looks like it has finally become a reality and that reality is filled with cool aerial combat and grandiose speeches.  No one in this trailer makes a statement that is not of monumental importance to the dignity of our nation and the history of the human race.  But that’s what the trailer is designed to sell: action and gravitas but I hope the film is, at least where the dialogue is concerned, a little more grounded.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film stars Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Bryan Cranston, Brandon T. Jackson, and Nate Parker.  Red Tails opens January 20, 2012.

Here’s the official synopsis for Red Tails:

1944. As the war in Europe continues to take its toll on Allied forces, the Pentagon brass has no recourse but to consider unorthodox options – including the untried and untested African-American pilots of the experimental Tuskegee training program. Just as the young Tuskegee men are on the brink of being shut down and shipped back home, they are given the ultimate chance to show their courage. Against all the odds, with something to prove and everything to lose, these intrepid young airmen take to the skies to fight for their country – and the fate of the free world.

Finally, glad to see what it finally looked like. excited to see this. so does Hemmingway get the directing credit bc i heard it was Lucas that did all the reshoots?

Now Im worried to hear Lucas had a directing hand in this, who could be possibly worse at directing than him? The trailer looked great but then again, they always do.

Looks like a video game more than a movie. Too clean and crisp and the colors very very strong. Someone needs to take that film out and age it in some Mother nature.

That actually didnt look terrible. It really actually seemed quite like a good dramatic action film. Just because Lucas is involved doesnt mean it will suck, guys.

The trailer looks solid, and I was on the verge of being excited, but then I saw that its coming out in January, and all my hopes were then shot down.

The release month does not tell you if if its a good movie or not judge that for yourself. It’s probably for that month because its a niche market type film with no real big headliners like Will Smith or Denzel Washington etc.

Actually, the release date can often tell A LOT about what your expectations should be about a movie. January is notorious for the studios dumping crap on the public.

All released in January over the last two years: Season of the Witch, The Green Hornet, No Strings Attached, The Rite, From Paris with Love, The Wolfman

        There are always exceptions though.

Keep in mind that February is Black History Month and a late January opening will lead right into that. Also, I thought the trailer looked great.

While your reasoning makes sense; it shouldn’t be like that.

I mean , which month is the Jew month history?
Which month is the white month history?

Wait….which month is the Asian month history?

Then again, this is the 21st century and we have organisations like still named “NAACP”.

Racism is most often caused by the very people who try to fight against it.

This movie is about American history period.

So Cuba finally reaches for the defibrillator on his career, no more gay cruises or talking dogs, back to some real drama. Hope it works out for him.

This actually looks like an incredible film. I actually have great admiration for George Lucas. I don’t know what the hardcore Star Wars fans have against him, but from my generation, the Star Wars prequels were films I was incredibly excited by, along with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, and they were films that inspired me to get into the filmmaking business. So, whether this film is a hit or not, the man involved will have me excited more than anything.

The visual effects look phenomenal! I know it’s a January release, but it should be a big contender for the 2013 Oscars!

Wait a second, it’s an all black squadron, and they’re African Americans?!? What a mind blower!

Now see, this is the sort of thing Lucas should have been putting his energy into, instead of all those tired retreads. This reminds me of a Lucas Arts PC game I had back in the day; anyone remember Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe? Man I had fun with that one.

Dont we already have a tuskegee airman movie?

  • Nope

    “first all-black African American,” huh?

The real stars of this movie, like so many in the past, are the visual effects artists, one of which, I’m proud to say is my son.
