About two months ago Steve spoke with writer/director and franchise steward Paul W.S. Anderson who revealed that he was in the midst of writing the first draft of Resident Evil 6 (with the working title of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter).  Which makes it sort of surprising that Anderson and Milla Jovovich were set to travel to Cape Town, South Africa (apparently in the very near future) to start work on the film.  These giant movies often need a somewhat lengthy development process before they go into pre-production and shooting, so it’s a little bit of a head scratcher that he would have already turned around a few more drafts after that.

But that was apparently the case until franchise star (and Anderson’s wife) Milla Jovovich became pregnant, a development that will cause something of a significant delay in shooting the film.  Right now Jovovich says they are targeting next summer (and hints that some crew were already at work in South Africa).  Not entirely bad news as this will give Anderson some more time to tinker with his script if he needs to.  Hit the jump for more on the Resident Evil 6 delay.

Happy Monday everyone!

This was originally going to be a post to tell you how excited I am about flying to Cape Town, South Africa to begin working on Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

But… My husband Paul and I just discovered that we are expecting another baby!!!

So after a lot of discussion, we thought it would be in everyone’s best interest to wait till the baby is born before we set out to try and tackle an RE movie. Between the stunt work and what will become my ever-expanding belly, we didn’t think pregnancy and zombie killing are the best combo! Lol! I imagine the only thing I’ll be killing in the near future is an endless supply of cupcakes. Yikes…

In all seriousness though, we want to make the best movie possible and that would be extremely difficult, to say the least, in my present condition.

I would like to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has been working so hard on the movie in South Africa already and we are so looking forward to working with you all next summer. And when we arrive, it will hopefully be with the newest member of our little family! YAY!

Before I go, i want to also send one more HUGE thank you out to all my amazing fans who have been so patient waiting for the next installment of the RE franchise! YOU ROCK!

Thanks so much for understanding everyone! All the best! -m
