About a year ago, a rumor hit that Resident Evil 6 would be released on September 12, 2014.  However, with it now being February, and no information on filming, casting, or anything Resident Evil 6-related since that release date story, I figured the project was either filming under the greatest veil of secrecy ever or the release date was incorrect.  As you can probably guess, it's the latter.

Just a few hours ago, I sat down with writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson for his disaster epic, Pompeii, and I asked him the status of the next Resident Evil.  According to Anderson, he only finished Pompeii a few days ago and hasn't begun to think about anything but a vacation.  However, he did say, "we'd like to do another Resident Evil movie. Definitely.  But the wheels aren't quite in motion yet."  Hit the jump for more.

From what I understand, Anderson hasn't begun writing the script, but he did tell us awhile ago that he had a story in mind for Resident Evil 6 that involved a lot of death and would bring the franchise to a close.  In addition , I ran into Screen Gems President, Clint Culpepper, at the junket and he made it very clear that another Resident Evil was a priority and he was just waiting on Anderson to move forward.

If I were a betting man, I'd imagine Anderson is going to get started on the script in the near future and it'll be in front of cameras by the end of the year with a fall 2015 release date.  But that's just an educated guess.  I do not have anything confirmed.

Here's what Anderson told me about Resident Evil 6.  Look for the full interview in the coming weeks.
