We’re getting a fifth Resident Evil movie. I don’t like wrapping my mind around that sentence but writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson and star Milla Jovovich couldn’t care less what I like. Bloody-Disgusting reports that the two have signed on for Resident Evil: Retribution. Of course, there are still characters from the video games that haven’t been put into the movies so three cheers for fan-service. Sienna Guillory tweeted in March that she would reprising her role as Jill Valentine, but BD reports that the part is being recast. The production is also casting for Barry Burton (who first appeared in Resident Evil 3 and most recently in DLC for Resident Evil 5) and fan-favorite Leon Kennedy. The character was reported dead in Resident Evil: Apocalypse but Anderson looks like he’ll be making good on his promise that he’ll bring Leon into the mix for the fifth movie. No word if Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) or Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller) will return.
Filming will likely begin in October and will take Alice from Toronto to Tokyo. Resident Evil: Retribution is slated to open in 3D on September 14, 2012.

“Paul W.S. Anderson and star Milla Jovovich couldn’t care less what I like.” Neither can we.
Yeah he just ruined a respected video game seiries by having his own wife cast to fill out some sexual fantasy of her
WTF, get rid of the Sienna Guillory who’s hottest actor in the whole series. I’m sure Milla had something to do with it since she looked jealous in the behind the scenes of part 2.
Paul W.S. Anderson is nothing but Milla Jovovich’s b%*tch. Congratulations Anderson, you’ve shown everyone how a tool like yourself acts in a relationship. Not only that you don’t care about bringing in the box office dollars since Sienna Guillory is the most popular in the franchise.
I agree. The best part of Afterlife was Sienna’s return and the hope of seeing her in the sequel, but if she’s out, i’m afraid i may be too….
I doubt she’s being recast, but if it didn’t work out with Guillory then so be it. I’d rather she in the film played by a different actress than not be in at all.
But who cares love the Resident Evil series.
The recast news looks bogus. I think Anderson is just trying to keep her involvement in the a secret as much as possible. Can’t wait.
The series is awful but great news that Paul W.S. Anderson is returning for a fifth movie.
Jensen Ackles or Jeremy Renner as Leon S Kenndey where maybe Leon can team up with Chris to fight a army of zombies and dog zombies.
i hate these movies as much as the next guy but Barry Burton first appeared in Resident Evil 1
“The production is also casting for Barry Burton (who first appeared in Resident Evil 3 and most recently in DLC for Resident Evil 5) and fan-favorite Leon Kennedy.”
Um….Barry Burton was in the original Resident Evil game.
Out of all the endless pointless bloody remakes, reboots etc why in the hell can’t RE be remade, with Anderson and Jovovich standing as far away from it as possible.
As an movie adaptations are shite, simple as. An derson has aproached the RE movies with the same aproach as Mortal Kombat and and AVP, he is nothing more than a studio bitch, he is a sell who has massive potential e.g. Event Horizon and Shopping.
Stupid movies.
I don’t understand why the producers or whoever even decide to include characters from the games. We fans of the games were alienated beyond recovery a long time ago, not to mention the fact these movies are terrible regardless…
Please let this sorry excuse for a franchise die. The first one was borderline okay but the rest could have been released straight to video. I can’t stand how Anderson didn’t introduce any characters from the game in his 1st movie and then arbitrarily throws them in whenever he see’s fit. To me it’s because he has no idea what a good story is. And I hate it when people say just go play the games if you want that story. The only reason Anderson throws in some familiar characters is so all the people who played the games and were pissed could be appeased. Guess what? Any true fan of Resident Evil should be appalled at what this douche has done with this series. It should be called “The Super Chick vs The Undead Mutant Things” not Resident Evil. Milla’s hot but I won’t give this movie a pass based on that. And I’m happy to see most people giving their opinions here are thinking the same way.
oh god please let this series die! Paul W. S. Anderson has completely RUINED this franchise. It needs a reboot STAT. why, god why, do they continue destroying good stories and characters?!
Well if the games are of any comparison the only ones that actually had any sense of fun it’s the ones starting our blonde boy Leon… so who knows.
Well if the games are any parallel, the only one’s that have any actual sense of fun star our blonde boy there Leon, and lets not forget the best of the series was again starting the blond and only tangentially related to the rest of the cannon… so here’s to rolling the dice.
Oh man, this movie franchise has completely ruined Resident Evil and the very memories of one of the biggest classics and revolutionizing video games ever. Please let it end. Barring the first one, the next three parts got worse and worse. We need a complete reboot here like what Nolan did with Batman. And please keep Milla and all those non-Resident Evil characters thousands miles away of it. Please!
