Heat Vision reports that Justin Haythe, who adapted the laughably-bad Revolutionary Road, is in negotiations to take the reigns on the script for the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced adaptation of The Lone Ranger. Almost 18 months ago, Johnny Depp was announced to play the role of the Lone Ranger’s sidekick, Tonto, but the project has remained dormant ever since. I suppose if there’s any way to put your potentially-huge franchise into stasis, it’s to hire one of the most popular movie stars in the world. Damn you, Depp!
Haythe’s involvement means that Disney has renewed its interest in the project and perhaps we’ll start finding out who should be cast at the Ranger and as his horse Silver. My suggestion: Dan Hedaya and George Clooney, respectively.
