Rhys-Ifans-Amazing-Spider-Man-interview-slice

Several weeks ago, Sony Pictures invited us to attend the press junket The Amazing Spider-Man.  The reboot takes a grittier, more realistic approach to Peter Parker’s journey to becoming your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, and sees the wall-crawler struggling to come to grips with the mysterious of disappearance of his parents.  For more on the film, click here for all of our previous coverage.

During my on-camera interview with Rhys Ifans, who plays Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard, we talked about why the Lizard stands out from other supervillains, if he feels that the Lizard is a monster from within or forced upon Curt Connors, and how the finished film compared to what he envisioned when he first read the script.  Hit the jump to check out the interview, and click on the corresponding links for my interviews with co-stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. The Amazing Spider-Man opens in 3D on July 3rd.

Rhys Ifans

  • 0:11 – Why he thinks the Lizard stands out from other superhero villains.
  • 1:25 – If he feels the Lizard is the monster within, or if the monster is forced upon him.
  • 2:41 – How the finished film compared to what he envisioned when he first read thes script.

    its disappointing

    This is no spoiler…
Guys, I am in India and watched The Amazing Spiderman on 29th June…. Though its a good movie with great performance by Andrew, decent watch but I wanna share my disappointments:
    1. Darkness: Why after The Dark Knight, every superhero movie has to be dark & heavy?
    2. Untold Story: Themuch hyped “untold story” about who killed Spidey’s parents is never revealed in the movie.
    3. Night sequence: He is no Batman, then why all the sequence has to be in night
    4. Superhero?: Except suit & artificial web, the Spidey has no superpower, he was like very ordinary man. Getting beaten everytime.
    5. Superhero Again?: If he is superhero than why he is focusing only on personal revenge and not saving the public.
    6. Villian: You will be very disappointed with Lizard. There is not much of or scope in the movie.
    7. Spidey’s Secret: It was getting revealed very cheaply in the movie so many times.
    8. Transition: Peter’s transition into spidey was not effective & entertaining.
    9. Gwen: Though having significant role, she is not impactful or charming (this is my personal opinion only)

Funny thing is, in every review I’ve read so far, they say the exact opposite. Clearly you’re just a Raimi fan STILL upset (for whatever reason) about this movie being made. Either that or you’re just a bitter person.

This movie looks fantastic, and I’ve heard great things about it.

        Dear AlexHeyNa,
Yes, u r rite that I am big sam riami trilogy fan but I am much bigger fan of spider-man itself.
If u read carefully then I have started my post by appreciating the new movie but since Spidey is my favourite superhero, my expectations were more.
New movie is definately worth watching, I am not denying but I just shared my disappointment.
May be if u go inside theatre whithout the influence of review, u will realize. And trust, I am not a bitter person and don’t mean to offend anyone.
And I honestly wait for your feedback once you see the movie!

Oh, hey look, Rhys Ifans is talking about the lizzzzzzzzzz…

  • tarek

Anyway, all the actors are forced to say how good was the movie they played in. It’s in their contract. So…

I have 5 bucks to spend, so I’m gonna watch it tomorrow to confirm what has said Spidey Fan, even if I suspect he is 100 % right.

I would really appreciate to hear your reviews about the movie once u see it. All the best!! and happy viewing !!!
