Richard Regen has been tapped to adapt the life of New York Jets Pro-Bowl linebacker Bart Scott for the silver screen.  Writing for former New Line execs. Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne's Unique Pictures label, Deadline reports that Regen will be charged with "generating an inspiring film in the vein of The Blind Side."  While Regen could have a difficult time recreating the critical and commercial success that followed John Lee Hancock's film, it won't be due to a lack of drama from the source material.  Scott was raised by a single-mother in a violent neighborhood in Detroit and his unlikely rise to stardom began with his receiving zero offers to play Division I football (leading him to play Division I-AA football for the Salukis of Southern Illinois University a.k.a. "my alma mater").

Ostensibly, Regen's script would revolve around such obstacles and Scott's improbable rise to the NFL.  Unfortunately, the lack of a heroic White figure helping Scott overcome seemingly insurmountable odds probably won't help his film's chances of matching the commercial success enjoyed by The Blind Side.  As for Regen, in addition to the as-of-yet untitled biopic, he previously scripted Tehran (formerly on the Black List before being optioned by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment) and Chasing the Dragon, a memoir about the Chinese Civil War for Universal and Tribeca Film (Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal's production company).
