Adult Swim is gearing up for the next season of Rick and Morty, their cultish animated hit following the inter-dimensional doings of the titular mad-scientist grandfather and dopey grandson. Today, the network finally released a full trailer for Rick and Morty Season 2 and there's some revealing details that can be gleaned from the scenes previewed. Most remarkable is the narrative decision to have the entire family, outside of the titular duo, get involved in their crazed adventures across inventive planets with aliens and creatures that, often enough, act just like humans. Indeed, the trailer makes a point of highlighting a scene where Morty's mother, Beth, tells her husband, Jerry, that they have to listen to Ricky from here on out, which seems like a risky proposition to say the very least. And though I didn't see a single Mr. Meeseeks, there are plenty of creatures and wild landscapes at play in the trailer, and there's a sense that the show might be moving past the overt cynicism of Season 1, moving onto some more ambitious modes of storytelling. And the Weird Science nod doesn't hurt one bit.

Here's the trailer:

Here's the Season 2 synopsis:

Rick Sanchez (Justin Roiland) is still living with his daughter Beth’s (Sarah Chalke) family and causing more trouble than ever. This season the rest of the family, his son-in-law Jerry (Chris Parnell), grand-daughter Summer (Spencer Grammer) and grand-son Morty (Roiland) are dragged into Rick’s intergalactic adventures, as he faces new threats and mysteries of his secret past are revealed. Can the family survive Rick’s insanity and all the chaos the universe throws at them?

Rick and Morty Season 2 will premiere on July 26th at 11:30 p.m. on Adult Swim.
