Special Effects Makeup artist Rick Baker has won seven Oscars over the course of a career that's spanned more than two decades. The quality of his work has ranged from the iconic (An American Werewolf in London) to groundbreaking (Men in Black) to ridiculously better than the film it's in (Norbit). He is a master in his field, and unfortunately, his field is now being left behind due to advances in technology. While I don't bemoan the digital effects that can create a film like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Baker's work is just as impressive in its own way, but the demand for it has declined.
In a video taking us behind the scenes of his workshop and studio, Baker explains that he doesn't want to throw his creations out, and he wants to bring them to the Academy Museum. It's bittersweet to see Baker face the decline of his profession, but hopefully he'll find a good home for his phenomenal work. Hit the jump to check out the video.
