The Golden Globes as an awards show are meaningless. As a telecast, however, they are incredibly entertaining. It’s essentially one big party where all of the year’s awards contenders are in the same room with plenty of booze to go around, and the somewhat loose atmosphere always makes for a fun affair—especially when you’ve got a solid host. Tina Fey and Amy Poheler—potentially the show’s best hosts in history—were masters of ceremony for three years in a row, but they turned down the opportunity to return this year not wanting to wear out their welcome. In their stead, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced today that none other than Ricky Gervais will be filling the role as host for 2016.

This will be Gervais fourth time hosting the ceremony, as he helmed the Golden Globes for three years straight in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Really Gervais, Fey and Poehler are the only Golden Globes hosts of the modern era (the show didn’t have a host for a stretch of time in the early 2000s), so it appears the HFPA likes to stick with what they know. Which isn’t a bad thing when you consider the entertainment value of folks like Gervais, Fey and Poehler—although I can’t help but wonder whether they tried to nab Amy Schumer before landing on Gervais.

Which films will be among the nominees? Again, it doesn’t really matter since the Globes are voted on by a tiny group of international journalists with lax prerequisites, but the ceremony should be fun regardless.
