New Trailer, Poster, and Images for RIDDICK Starring Vin Diesel

by     Posted 1 year, 104 days ago

Universal Pictures has released a new trailer, images, and a debut poster for writer/director David Twohy’s Riddick.  The Chronicles of Riddick follow-up finds the titular character, played by Vin Diesel, left for dead on a deserted planet filled with predators both alien and human, as bounty hunters once again are out for Riddick’s head.  Clocking in at two and a half minutes long, this trailer shows off much more footage than the first teaser, but there’s not much revealed by way of plot.  In fact, it really looks as though one could comfortably watch Riddick without having seen the first two films in the series and be completely onboard.  With Karl Urban returning, though, one imagines there’s at least a small throughline that connects Riddick with Chronicles.  Though some of the effects are a bit spotty, if you’re a fan of the character and/or the first two films, this trailer promises that Riddick is likely right up your alley.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer, poster, and images.  The film also stars Katee SackhoffDavid BautistaJordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Bokeem Woodbine, Raoul Trujillo, and Nolan Gerard Funk.  Riddick opens in traditional theaters and IMAX on September 6th.

Here’s the synopsis for Riddick:

The latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000′s hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004′s The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

looks exactly like pitch black, which strangely i’m ok with since i enjoyed that lil shin dig. and who doesn’t dig starbuck.

Totally Pitch Black 2. Which is exactly what the franchise should have gotten 10 years ago.

Looks like the better elements of Pitch Black and Chronicles mashed together. Im okay with that. Also dig the shoe string budget look; adds some charm

  • Stephen

Looks surprisingly solid! And this is coming from a guy who hated Chronicles of Riddick.

  • Grayden

Yeah, feeling the Pitch Black vibe most definitely. Which, in agreement with others, is totally justified and acceptable.

am I mistaken, or wasn’t Karl Urban supposed to be in this? Is it going to be a surprise at the end?

There was a little bit of Necromongers in the trailer so maybe he’s comin to hunt him too or just a little bit in the beginning to show how Riddick got on the planet since he was like a King in the last one.

Another interesting aspect of Riddick is that it’s something of a preview to see how Bautista will do in a role similar to what he’ll be playing in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Is this the same planet as Pitch Black or does there happen to be another planet that goes dark when the solar system lines up and strange nocturnal creatures eat everyone? either way it looks cool and has a lot of Pitch Black call backs in the trailer.

  • lobtaylor

I love love the all the landscapes of the Riddick worlds!
This is looking awesome, will be there at IMAX opening day!

Much rather watch Diesel in this than another boring Fast & Furious sequel!
Pitch Black is a classic so count me in.

This looks like the plot from the original, real… original?

RIDDICK was perfect. Solid film, easily best in the series followed by Butcher Bay. Thank you Diesel and Twohy…..and personally I humbly say, haters of the fim can eat a massive d**k.
